    1. Did you even read the post before hurrying to the comments to ask?

“Upgrade instructions for Linux Mint 20.3 will be provided shortly.”

  1. Thank you for Mint. We do appreciate your work. Mint XFCE is the perfect distro for me.

May you each be blessed in all ways.

    1. A base system with most of the stuff will surely fit in 10 to 20 GB, but most people do not take into consideration the data that will be generated or downloaded over a period of time. People download audio video graphics etc, which will need storage space.
If you plan to use it as a server you will end up having logs files etc that is also a criteria for specifying 100 GB.

Do you really think that people who can install Linux with disk partitioning do not know about separating /home-partition? Or even more – separated /Data-partition? Moreover, if you mean novices from Windows – they do not install LM themselves but ask someone else to help them (read – install LM). As I understood from news, i got more services, more thumbnails’ cache, more snaps from Timeshift and … more efforts to switch off them. My LM 20.3 XFCE loads 35s to DM and 13s to desktop. 48s with switch off unneeded systemd services – in 1.5 times longer than Plasma in Void Linux. 4GB RAM for comfortable use? XFCE? OMG. At last, who does install LM as a server? Show me that lucky guy.

P.S. Do not get me wrong, I appreciate the job of LM Team very much, but in my opinion the way of developing LM goes the wrong way: system becomes heavier, bigger, with more functions driven in with nails, more efforts to disabling services, uninstalling soft, etc. Well, it is time to move on – I do not need another Windows. But I wish good luck to the project.

  2. I installed xfce 21 on one of my four computers running xfce 20.3. I noticed that thumbnails are not created in video files. Will this be fixed or is it a serious problem? Thanks for nice work.

    1. There’s a fix posted for that on the forum. I did it and it works for me.
I’ll also be interested to see if it is fixed in Mint 21, however it is I’m pretty sure it is not a ‘Mint’ problem.
It is a problem in Thunar, so if the Thunar wizards fixed it, that will be passed down to Mint 21.
If not, just install tumbler-plugins-extra and do the changes to /etc/xdg/tumbler/tumbler.rc as pr the instructions in the Mint Forum post.
It’s quick, simple and should solve the problem.

  3. I have already tried 21 xfce as installed it on a new SSD. During boot process I can say it is little bit slower than 20.3 xfce and Zorin 16.1 Lite and much much slower than MX Linux 21.1 xfce. Just a good job. Wish you success.

    1. @matt – If I remember right the upgrade instructions are often several weeks after launch of the new install ISO’s, not a few days. Having said that, they worked on improving the mint-upgrade so it could be sooner or later than usual this time, depending on confidence in the improved update tool I suppose.

I doubt they’ve forgotten, anyway. It will be announced when it is announced.

    2. In the comments on the Cinnamon Edition blog post, Clem said it should be released Monday.

  4. Am I alone in having issues with the Mint X / Mint Y themes in LM21?
I’ve tried a clean install and an upgrade but both seem to have a wrinkle in the theming; basically there is no light theme, just dark mode for the windows and some ugly headers to the windows.
This also causes my main panel to have dark at either end, which I have to ‘correct’ by toggling the dark mode switch in the appearance tab of the panel preferences.

    1. I use Mate and didn’t like the new themes so I replaced them with the themes from Mint 20.3.

  6. I’m trying to install Mint21 on bios computer . The install manager gives me
“No EFI System Partition was found. This system will likely not be able to boot successfully, and the installation process may fail.
Please go back and add an EFI System Partition, or continue at your own risk.”

    So , What happens

    1. Ignore the message and go ahead on. Worked fine for me on an HP laptop several years old.

  7. If you mint developers have anything to do with the Debian systems, you need to put the real Firefox web browser in them, or tell them to do so. Most government web sites do not recognize Firefox-ESR 91, they say it is out of date. They do accept Firefox 103. If you use any Debian 11 system you will have to use Windows 10 for government work or a Linux OS that has Firefox 103. I never contact the Debian developers directly because they will post your email address all over the internet.

  8. Excelente, actualizado ahora a versión 21. Mejoró la velocidad de arranque, y la de apertura de aplicaciones instaladas. Intel© Core™ i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz × 4

  9. It’s disgusting when Linux Mint 19.3 does not detect the new canon PIXMATR4720 printers and neither does LMDE5. The canon printer driver is not listed in the synaptic package manager. The Mint teem needs to get up to date.

  10. Hi any one install on a MacBook pro i5 2nd generation 13inch with 4gb ram? I have installed quite a few on PC laptop all are very good and stable. However for the Mac book it always hang after some installation of software. and needs to force shut shutdown to restart.

  11. I upgraded to mint 21 and found that VLC will not play rtsp stuff anymore. says cannot open input. worked with 20.3

  12. I tried the upgrade and get

    hppt://ppa.launchpad.net/jcfp/sab-addons/ubuntu does not support jammy
    hppt://apt.sonarr.tv/jcfp/sab-addons/ubuntu does not support jammy
I have reset to default my Official repositories,

    any ideas.
