The Community Podcast project

This is the third attempt at launching a podcast about Linux Mint and this time we want to get something working for and by the community.

We’re looking for:

  • a benevolent dictator for this new podcast. Somebody who will be available frequently and who would be the real leader behind this project.
  • people who want to co-host the show or contribute sections to it.

Once a team is in place we want that new podcast to have its own .com so it can generate its own revenue and develop its own model. Our intention isn’t to maintain this podcast ourselves, but to gather a team who will do that independently.

Ideally we’d like to see that podcast release on a weekly basis and cover the topics we talk about in this blog. We’d like it to be something the community would listen to learn more about Mint but also something we’d listen to to know more about our community.

Ideally we’d like:

  • hosts not to read notes, but to speak and improvise.
  • the format of the show to be clear (know what topics you will talk about before you start).
  • the show to be serious without being formal
  • the show to start small if necessary (don’t be too ambitious),  but to guarantee a weekly release.

PS: It takes one man for a project to succeed so if you’re motivated and confident about yourself, please come forward. Of course the bigger the team the better, but if many people are motivated and if they live in different regions of the World and can’t work together for some other reasons we can help launch more than one podcast.

There are many ways Linux Mint can help such podcasts (trafic, audience, content) and many ways these podcasts will help us as well. Let’s make this work, let’s give a voice to our community, let’s look forward to have a place where we can talk.

  1. hello I would really like to help and talk on the podcast, I can host the show, I have a great audio setup at home, multiple mics, and the like, I am very much into linux and open source, and was previously using suse, I am a recent convert to the debian side of things. A friend of mine is using ubutnu and he is thinking of swithching to mint once the next release is avialable. We could discuss all sorts of things related to your project goals ect. once a week.

I am eager to start, and waiting your reply. thanks.

  2. i would join too, i could help with music and sound in linux and other stuff maybe also some jingle or background music, not with deepest knowledge about linux 😀

  3. I’m not that great when it comes to coding but I’m pretty decent at audio recording.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

  4. I recommend everyone go listen to the Ubuntu UK podcast as a good example of a distro specific podcast that is pretty interesting and informative. Sometimes it runs a little on the long side for my taste, but its a very good podcast.

  5. Hi,
I don’t know that I actually have much I could contribute to the project (I am only 16 and a student), but I’d really like to help! Is there anything I could do?
    Becks

  6. by the way .. i have a suggestion:

would it be possible to PM (Private Message) mint members posting over here?

so i dont have to keep checking back and forth if somebody posted a question or answer to me ..

like we could click on the person’s name, and just write a short message. that he would get in his private inbox.

be it on a new mint members mail.

or their original emails (which, doesnt have to be published)

what do you guys think? 🙂

it’ll just help connect mint users together and improve our experience with the distro.

  7. I too would love to contribute to the community. I have been using Linux Mint for a little while now and would love to give back in any way I can. I don’t have audio recording equipment but I write technical articles for my website and have contributed to a couple others.
I just joined the launchpad group so I will look for the mailings.

  8. I’m willing to do anything you ask, as long as I get to tell someone what to do I’m fine.
    😀
I can help plan it and find things to talk about.

  9. This will be awesome if we can get this up and running.
I’ve registered on launchpad.. I can basically write some articles and think about what we might discuss.
    Cheers,
    Budgetperson
