  1. Once again overwhelming reasons for Mint to break its ties with Ubuntu entirely. Yes I know Mint 5 LTS is a little old and long in the tooth but it is mega stable and just gets the job done

  2. @ SiKing

Isadora is by far the best and most stable release to date. You can easily upgrade to Kernel 2.6.38 and if you have an Nvidia Graphics card the proprietary driver can be ditched in favour of the open source libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental driver using the xorg-edgers PPA

My point was not that Elyssa was any better than Isadora which it is not. My point was that yet another decent release is losing support

  3. Dear Elyssa,
Mon Amour you really wanna leave me after three years of love? Why? Okay, I was not always faithful. I had a short and intense affair with Suzie, openSuzie. But that is all over now….. What! You leave me because I am in love with your two younger sisters Isadora and Julia? But they are so attractive, especially with their LXDE mini-skirts. Impossible to resist. So, adieu then, and thanks for all you have done for me.

    Bye-bye Baby.

  4. Hi,

First of all, warm greetings from India!
Linux Mint is going to have a very bright future ahead that I’m sure of.
I hope, like always the devs will come up with more and more great and productive features with each and every release.

    Regards,
    A LMDE 2010 + Linux Mint 10 Julia user.

  5. This was my introduction to Mint Linux and the distro that hooked me…my first love. You never really get over your 1st love.

  6. Guy

linux mint 9 Isadora is the best and stable for me, i have network wired errors in mint 10

Now back to isadora mint 9

  7. Elyssa was a nice step forward from Daryna and it served me well but I won’t lie I moved to Felicia when it got out. 😛 Well… don’t we all know Mint got better and better with each release? 🙂 Anyway, farewell Elyssa! 🙂

  8. I like Mint 5’s logging screen, how to implement that in Mint10? Mint11 should have that logging screen.

  9. It’s a good thing my first mint experience is Linux Mint 9 LTS Isadora!

I feel bad for a lot of people that have been using Elyssa for the longest time and will definitely miss it. But it really is time to move on. So upgrade to Isadora OR make the switch to LMDE already.

  10. The first Linux distro I ever had…
Far better than Felicia, IMO, and I’ve no intention of completely uninstalling elyssa from my rig.

  11. Elyssa got me hooked on Linux. I ran it until about a year ago when I switched to Crunch Bang. Elyssa was the last Linux distro (Mint or otherwise) that supported my Radeon 9600 based laptop graphics card (I know it’s ATI/AMD’s fault for dropping linux support). The open driver just isn’t up to snuff, even playing full screen videos makes my system crawl.

    Elyssa you will be missed.

  12. Linux Mint 5R1 was my first Linux OS, and it got me off Windows for good. My WinXP system had gotten badly messed up by malware that somehow got past all the security software, and nothing could remove it, not GData, not Avira, nothing.

So, I said: that’s it. I’ve had it with Windows.

I read a bunch of reviews and tested about 10 Live CDs of different distros and Mint was by far the best. I installed Mint 5 and I’ve never looked back.

Now I’m on Mint 9 LTS, and perhaps when Mint Debian gets a bit more polished, I’ll switch to that, since a rolling distribution is more convenient.

Over the past few years, I’ve tested over 40 different distros on Live CD or on qemu and I still like Mint better than all of them.

You guys have the best vision of what an OS ought to do, IMHO !!

  13. Elyssa was the second linux distribution of my life back then and after trying it out I forgot that there were many other OSes that existed. Since then I have been hooke to Linux mint and Linux.

Linux Mint rocked, rocks and will continue to rock!
