Events:

Summary:

  • June was an interesting month. Although only one ISO was released, a lot of things were achieved to improve the project, and the tools available to the team and to the community. Iso-localize, for instance, is a great addition to our distribution and will have a significant impact on the adoption of Linux Mint in non-English speaking countries. The ISO testing module is another important addition. We now have a testing team, dynamic test cases and the whole process is transparent so anyone can monitor our progress. An important project also started in the background: the Debian edition.
  • We received less donations than in May. That’s not necessarily a bad thing considering how surprisingly high the figures were in May. 131 people supported us this month, for a total of $3,025.
  • Sponsorships are at an all-time high and now represent a significant share of our income. In June, our distribution was backed by 77 sponsors.
  • July 2010 should see the stable releases of the KDE and LXDE editions. The Fluxbox Edition is extremely close to an RC release and it’s possible its stable release could also happen in July.

  1. Looking forward to the 64-bit stable LXDE edition and the Debian edition, keep up the good work!

  2. Please update the links in the “Events” section. Only the one for iso-localize is correct. The others do not point to the blog but the main site.

  3. i got to say something that will get your heart pumping linux mint lxde runs faster on my pentium m 1500 then vista on my friends quad core 4 gigs ram and i only have 512

  4. @Joe

    Vista was a joke.

And the best reason to convert to Linux completely. Any Linux will do, since any is better.

I have converted to Linux because of vista, and I will never look back.

  5. Mint is great,Mint is the best Linux.
Mint runs faster than Vista- I love mint, I love mint tea too. In fact I love mint tea while using mint. I want to see mint runners in marathons. I want to see mint overtake all distros. I want to see a minty future.

  6. Really thank you for this great distribution i really love every single part of it !
I don’t want to push it that far but seriously its the Best Linux ever !

  7. thank you all. I have been using Linux Mint 9 OEM…LOVE IT! It is easy to use, very productive, well polished, and highly customizable. I am sticking with LinuxMint.

Note: Is there any way to install and manage multiple OEM installations in a single procedure.

  8. Windows 7 its just a fake.. these “nice” OS just need a lot of hardware resources to work properly, and the worst i’ve recently seen is how it crash not showing a blue screen but it freezes like hell and needed to reboot, so windows 7 simply still being a non-solid OS or not as good as Wndows XP (the better MS OS).

Linux is an OS much more solid than windows definitely, and taking note that linux is developed by community, not by a transnational with huge money resources to build a pitty operating system than has just a nice look but a lot of viruses and instability.
Thanx a lot to Linus Torvalds and developers of pioneer distros like Slackware, RedHat, Debian, etc, and of course to the Ubuntu and Mint teams.
This is the OS from the people for the people.
    Add efforts and get Linuxed!
    Cheers

  9. I have tried linux a few times over the years, suse, knopix and older ubuntu.. All were ok but kind of felt a bit crap and looked dodgy.. Mint is in a different league and I wont be going back. Sadly i will have to stay dual boot as some ssl vpn appliances force IE but i will use mint as my desktop from now on.

    Cheers

  10. I dropped Microsoft like a bad habit 5 years ago and have not looked back.
Your Mint program is just outstanding. I bought a Dell Inspirion 1525 with PCLinuxOS factory installed and have switched to Mint because of ease of use. I don’t know jack squat about source code, don’t speak it, read or write it. All I know is my computer has not crashed in 5 years. Great job folks, keep up the good work!

    Cheers,

    Campbell

  11. I have been in the Linux world for about more than a year when I friend of mine installed Ubuntu on my laptop and the experience make me to never look back Microsoft products and even Apple ever again.
Then I went to install openSUSE and Debian to learn the mechanisms of installation of distros. I was convinced when I test Linux Mint – specially when I test Ubuntu Lucid Lynx – and discover that Linux Mint is a better Linux and a more carefully thought Ubuntu implementation resting on friendliness, stability, robustness, lightness and wholeness of use.
The software manager takes care on what you installed is tested software only using a level of security selection that gives peace of mind. No other Linux in my knowledge have this feature.

It is curious to me that the colours of the desktop are green and it shows very nice specially when it comes from Ireland and green is my favourite colour. I will never change it because it shows an effort of your part that brings respect, admiration and excellence.

Keep up the good work and I wish you success.

  12. @Shabba you can use wine to run most IE versions on linux mint. maybe this will fix your dualboot problem 😉
