Despite I prefer KDE (and fluxbox for relic notebook) editions, I`ll give it a try. Thank you very much, guys!

  6. Flash858 says:

While I prefer Ubuntu in the Gnome environment, I have typically run the XFCE Mint Community edition alongside on another partition. So far, this seems to be the best version to date.

    Excellent work!

  7. max says:

Downloading it now. Have been waiting for this for months. Thanks

  8. merlwiz79 says:

Here is a video of it running.
It’s the RC but looks similar and has the same apps installed.
Been looking at his website and looks like he has many Linux videos.

  9. Rizzo says:

It’s about damn time… why can’t they release them all at once like Ubuntu does? Instead of working on one distro at a time, they should work on all of them at once.

  10. MysticGold04 says:

Ubuntu has many developers, which Mint only has a few. I personally am very thankful for the Mint developer team. They do such a fantastic job with the releases. Matter of fact, they are worth waiting for even though they come later than the Ubuntu releases. Congrats to the Mint team for another great release! Can’t wait for Mint 9!! Maybe by then the means for creating an x64 release of the Xfce CE will exist! 🙂

  11. manny says:

Rizzo, I respect your opinion and I’m glad you are part of the Linux Mint family too. Each of us are enjoying those fantastic OS’s and the freedom to choose the environment we like the best. The Linux Mint devs. are doing an extraordinary job servicing our needs, unfortunately the releases are not on time as you will like to be. The explanation for that is, they work on their regular jobs, have families to attend and they try their best to find time to work for YOU and the rest of us too. You know I have a suggestion for you, please visit the following site: and maybe down the road you will be served as you demand.

    Yours truly

  12. breaker says:

Fantastic! Thanks for all of your hard work! I love Mint XFCE CE!

  13. RadioActiveRice says:

Great Job Mint Team! Now I can dust off the old pc and bring it back to life.

  14. Maxxz de meern says:

Xfce yesss thx en congrats Mint team 🙂

  15. Jamie says:

Manny: ok, so he’s less grateful than we all want ourselves to be, and outwardly less patient. I’m not taking sides here, because I’ve seen this before, and distro fanatics can be very dangerous if they don’t catch themselves early on (i.e. Slackware anyone?)

Anyway, the link is good, and at the very least, try to get others to convert! If you can’t contribute, but get 10 people to switch, maybe 2 of them will donate. Common ground? I just love this distro (can’t wait for the x64 XFCE also!) and don’t want to see angry people here. That’s all.

I just feel that this is one of the ‘softest’ communities (I mean that in a good way) and we should debug, donate, and proselytize all we can – without fighting amongst ourselves. I guess I found that last reply a bit condescending, and for some reason felt compelled to compose a fcking essay in response….. i don’t know why.

But there you have it 🙂

  16. sufli1986 says:

I tried almoust all types of linux versions, but mint is the best,if I can choose mint 8 or W7,I choose Mint 8

  17. manny says:

Jamie, I didn’t have any intention to have a fight in here and I’m sorry if I made that impression. Case close and thanks for your opinion.

  18. Mr. Aljoriz Dublin says:

I was having a difficult time adjusting to lxde and I am glad I made the switch to xfce. I will do a repartition as soon as xfce mint9 will be release and it will be the main distro that I will will for both Desktop and netbooks.

  19. Punam says:

  20. Kevin says:

    Hey guys,

I’m new to Mint and was wondering about the comparison between Mint XFCE and Xubuntu in terms of resources. Xubuntu has gotten heavier then I would like; will I have a similar problem if I try to run Mint XFCE?

  21. dunk says:

  25. kraziekoi says:

I run W7 and Linux Mint (dual boot). But for a very few exceptions, I prefer Mint and run it about 90% of the time. Thanks for an Awesome OS!

  26. Christophe says:

XFCE gives me the best experience on my desktop. Thanks for being hard-working!

  27. isaac says:

I started learning to use computers in 2005 (reeeally late!). Since I discovered Linux through a friend of mine who is a Computer Science major in college I’ve been blown away. I’ve actually come to disdain Mac and Microsoft Operating Systems and apps because Linux almost always works as well or better than the crap you pay for and get poor support with. Long story short, another CS friend of mine showed me Mint Gloria and the sexy aesthetics on top of ease of use make it my favorite OS by far. Also, since starting to use Linux, thanks to the abundance of forums and support sites, I’ve actually learned a ton about the basic functions of a computer and been enabled to take a direct hand in controlling my entire PC. Thank you Linux! Thank you Mint Design Team!!! You guys (and gals perhaps)are the best!!!

  28. Greg says:

I’m a newbie to Linux and have ordered a copy of ‘Linux Mint 8’ over the net, along with apparently 9 or so discs that accompany it. I always used Windows only because I was afraid to use Linux, due to the new learning curve, however having had ‘Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop’ for about a week, I have already declared I will not be returning “WINDOW$”.
I’m sure you will be receiving more praise after I have had a chance to run ‘Mint 8’.
    Thankyou in advance.

blindingly good kit, and l have a few converts coming along nicely as, fortunately, not everyone needs a pc for playing games on

  30. Anjum Hasan says:

I have been using Ubuntu for three years now. Since nobody uses Linux in my office i was forced to use either XP 0r 7. In my office i decided to use MINT alongside XP. today is the first time and first day I am using Mint and boy I am considering finishing ubuntu and using Mint at home too.

  31. Simon says:

Keep Up The Good Work !

  32. multimolti says:

Thanks for this nice distro, I tried it a few weeks ago and wanted to use it again today. I downloaded a pre-installed VMware image which runs perfectly, but I don’t know the root password. Since I want to install new software, I really need it… can you help me? Searched the web already, but can’t find anything -.-

  33. nhieno says:

  34. bob says:

  35. Vorbiczeck says:

Wow, XFCE interface has been very stable on many linux distros, in fact: I have seen it work where others don’t/ Won’t. I can’t wait to put this on and try it out for size. Thanks for making it possible everyone. Linux rocks and mint is a tastie treat. (now rubbing hands together like a mad scientist).

  36. julienmx says:

    Thanks !

Mint is the best ditro y tried on my laptop

  37. Eric says:

Just out of curiosity. What would make xfce an fluxbox better then Gnome? Run Mint 8 main now, but am curious if switching to this release is worth the effort?

  38. gnome_refugee says:

Just switched from Xubuntu 9.10 (new-ish laptop) to Helena Xfce (new desktop). Very nice, and mintConfig is excellent!
