    1. You can already share folders via SMB using the GUI, no need to edit files, and you can also use Warpinator, included with Linux Mint. You just need to install Warpinator on the other OS.

  2. Looks like the 22.1 is the real 22 !
Some many improvements.. What a great job.

Can’t wait to update my laptop!

  3. Thanks for this excellent release!

A tip for the release notes: the classic thicker Ubuntu fonts can also, and much easier, be gotten like this:
    sudo apt-get install fonts-ubuntu-classic
This’ll create unreadable menu items all over the place, but simply reboot and all should be well again.

  4. Can I install and run synaptic, apt, apt-get etc alongside the new package install methods in a way that won’t that cause any conflicts?

  5. The new notification windows are too rounded and look out of sync with the rest of the system.
Cinnamenu is a better fit than the default menu.
Setting a clear theme for the windows and a dark theme for the taskbar was a cool feature that we lost.
The custom icons are out of sync also. Please add an option to use the default app icons!

    Just my two cents.

    1. I personally never used the mixed theme (dark bar, light window), but I remember many people did like it allot. Definitely was a good (and simple I assume) feature to exist.

“Default app icons” instead of “Custom icons”? What do you mean? You want an option where the theme prefers primarily 3rd party (vendor provided) icons, and uses it’s theme icons only as a backup? Do I understand you correctly? That might be an interesting idea…

    2. By default Mint replaces Firefox (and other apps) icons by custom made icons.
Personally i prefer the original icons.

    3. I would also change the default wallpaper.
      Personally i could care less.
But many people try out distros (or not) based on that.
And most who try Mint, tend to like it.

  6. It turned out fantastic!
A future visual suggestion is to make the taskbar floating, just like in KDE Neon.
    It would look very beautiful.

    1. A floating bar on Mint?! No way… Definitely not by default. But I wonder if you could make a custom theme that way. You or other users can definitely try. But definitely not by default, haha

  7. Let me bring this up again, the new authentication dialogs implemented using clutter. Can they be set to never block the whole screen? (Or I have to look for a new distro?)

  8. How to restore the sound percentage in the sound dialog like before?

Also the blue is out of place in the dialogs, the color should be based on the theme used

  9. The “On-Screen display elements” for volume and brightness, is there no way how to get the % indicator back? Or do I get it back if I’m on a different theme? I really hope this gets polished in the future please.

  10. Hey, Clem! I’ve updated to Xia, and withing just a couple minutes, I’ve noticed some problems:

    – Searching in Software Manager used to be pretty fast – just a handful of seconds. Now it literally takes over a minute to perform a search. Not sure what happened there, but it’s not an improvement by any means.

    – I had asked in a previous blog post about the new dialogs. I was concerned that they didn’t seem to match the user’s selected theme. You had said it would be possible to make it match the theme. Well, it’s not matching my theme (Mint-X), nor does it match any other theme I have installed, including all of the official Mint themes. It looks like it’s trying to match a dark libadwaita instead. How do I get that working?

I’m sure your team will eventually work these things out. I just wanted to put in a report on that. Thanks for all you and your team do!

    1. Oh, also Clem, the “Linux Mint” panel theme is no longer there. That’s the only dark theme that pairs well with Mint-X. Could you please bring that back, so that we can use Mint-X with a dark panel and not feel like we’re oddly mixing themes? I know Mint-X sadly isn’t your priority, but some of us really want/need that theme to stick around as long as possible. Taking away the Linux Mint panel theme just makes Linux Mint not nearly as nice for us.

    2. I agree, please can the” linux mint” panel theme be restored? I too use Mint-x and think the “linux mint” panel looks the best. Other than that, a great release, took 9 minutes to download and upgrade, I did get a “requirements is not responding, force quit or wait” window pop up during the upgrade but it carried on upgrading anyway so….. A big thanks to you and the team for your efforts

  11. I filed a bug report about a problem I had with the update.

But: the upgrade was very fast; the new version of Mint Cinnamon fixes an serious panel bug; and the reboot after the update was exceptionally fast – which bodes well.

  12. One Mint Mate instance on my test computer started life as Mint 21. Upgraded to 21.1. Upgraded to 21.2. Upgraded to 21.3. Upgraded to 22. Now upgraded to 22.1. Testing so far is limited but everything seems to work. One note: This is not my daily driver! I prefer the Mint-X themes but I don’t like the looks of Mint-X themes in either Mint 21.x or 22.x. I use the Mint-X themes from Mint Mate 20.3 instead. Just one my quirks, I guess, like my preference for the WinMe or Raleigh border.

    Jerry

    1. Yeah, I vastly prefer Mint-X as well. Flat themes frustrate me. Is it a button or a rectangle? Who knows?! There’s no 3-D cues to be able to tell! Not good at all for people with poor eyesight, like myself, and for people who’ve lived through the flat GUI’s of the 80’s and would prefer not to regress. I really need the little 3-D elements that Mint-X offers to help make things easier to navigate. Sadly, one of the developers told me they don’t want to spend time working on improving Mint-X, as it’s just there for legacy purposes. Mint-Y is their focus.

To that end, I’ve also made my own mildly tweaked version of Mint-X with a few fixes for things I thought could be done a little better with Mint-X. I’m also working on a full dark mode version of Mint-X (it only has partial dark mode support right now, and not actively selectable by the user), since that’s not in the developer’s plans any time soon. It’s been a very slow process that I play with only when I have extra time (which isn’t often), but it just makes using my system that much more enjoyable and usable for me.

    2. I find that Mint-L themes with Mint-X icons are OK on dark themes (with a white pointer theme).

  13. To Clem and everyone in the MINT development team,
THANK YOU for an exceptionally smooth & good upgrade experience to 22.1. Took 10mins and Xia is very nice and I like how the changes are subtle and very considered. I am already enjoying this new mint version and again thank you for doing such a great job. You guys are brilliant, genius !!.

  14. I upgrated to 22.1 works fine , however the new dialogs does not follow my theme (color, buttons, bold font, etc) is there a way to disable it , or is there a css to change it?

  15. Thank you for the upgrade. Quite nice!
However, I have a question. When I go to software sources, and downgrade foreign packages, it shows aptdaemon as foreign. Is it normal?
    Best

  16. The upgrade from Mint 22 to 22.1 via upgrade manager was very quick and smooth, and all seems to work fine.
One surprise was that Synaptic was removed, and, although it was easy to install it via software manager, I wondered if it was intentional and you intend to deprecate it. I have always used it with Mint, and prefer it, probably due mainly to familiarity, but I wondered if using it could now cause issues.

  17. Hi, Clem! Great job us usual! But, what about LMDE 6? I have just received some updates from backports except for the brand new Cinnamon 6.4 desktop package: when will it be officially released for LMDE 6 as well? Best regards.

    Jonathan

    1. Hello. Just got the upgrade to Cinnamon 6.4 on LMDE6. I guess it’s just a matter of time.
      Regards
      François Proulx, Longueuil, Québec, Canada

  18. The update was a breeze! Thank you!

Just a quick question: I cannot see any entry named “Xia” under “Backgrounds”. No new backgrounds with Xia?

  19. Sadly, but now when you change the volume with the keyboard buttons, the pop-up window does not show the percentage

  20. Hi Linux Mint team.
If anybody read this… …I found an ugly fault in the Nemo file manager (this is a regression). This is a crash.
    — Open Nemo
    — Select a file
    — Right click on the file and select: Properties
    — Click the icon in this window (left corner in the window)
    — The Choose Icon window appears.
    — Click cancel immediately (until the search is complete).
    Result: Nemo is crash

  21. I just want to point out three things:
    1. Confirmation dialogs are not that great. They are too big and intrusive; different shades of red and blue color can be applied. The previous ones (dialogs) were simpler and more subtle.
    2. Night Light needs a switch in the taskbar. Sometimes we need to turn it off for a moment.
    3. System settings need to be revamped.

  22. Nemo works poorly in both systems – LM 22.1 and LMDE – when copying data from one hard drive to another with two open instances. Please solve the problem I solved using windows. Copying data is a basic function! I don’t know if anyone is interested, but I told you.
