  4. Great, thanks! Waiting for KDE 5 on Linux Mint 18.x only if it’s almost 100% stable. Linux Mint KDEs are very stable so far and stability it’s what makes them better choice over Kubuntu.

  5. I LOVE KDE 4, I HATE KDE 5, as implemented by all distros. Flat 16 color Google/Windoze icon themes.
I hope Mint does better than that in Mint 18 KDE.

What’s with FLAT everything lately? Like FLAT OS themes, FLAT Earth?

  6. I just finished updating 5 machines from 17.2 to 17.3 (2 desktop, 1 laptop, 1 Virtual-Box system and 1 USB “computer”), and all 4 desktops, and they all upgraded flawlessly. Great work! Thank you to all concerned!

  7. I would not use Linux of not for KDE. Thank you for the KDE edition of Linux Mint. Having tested so many, this is the best available right now. Thank you.

  8. @jake
Doesn’t matter whether the icons are flat or not – some people like them and some not. It is not possible to make everybody happy. The important thing is that it should be stable like always Mint is. This time KDE5 is unstable and there is lack of functions in compare to KDE4. Hopefully it will change till the next Linux Mint version will be released.

  9. KDE is head and shoulders above Mate, cinnamon and all the others. KDE should be the default, and the KDE editions of Mint should be the first released!

  10. Nice but still needs work. I like kde over gnome although the utility
of gnome cannot be denied. Wine 3-d functionality isn’t there yet as
well as any wine installed windows applications icons being sort of
whited out. kaffeine iso image play capability isn’t there as of yet.
This is just what i could see but i am sure with work this could be sorted out. For now i am sticking with linux mint 17.3 rosa cinnamon
as it is more stable. Perhaps maybe a little more testing before
taking it out of beta would have been warranted.

  11. Saw that there were fixes to HDMI output in the release notes. Much appreciated. I had to axe KDE in favor of Cinnamon on my desktop for 17.2 because the colors and resolution were messed up. Actually building a new desktop today and LM KDE 17.3 will be my first choice. THANKS!

  12. Enrique – its listed in new features –

    Main components

Linux Mint 17.3 features KDE 4.14, MDM 2.0, a Linux kernel 3.19 and an Ubuntu 14.04 package base.

  13. I haven’t used KDE in years but I’ve been using Mint/Cinnamon and MATE for a long time. I’m giving this a shot as I know the Mint team will have implemented it in the best way possible.

  14. In my experience:

Mint KDE is better than Kubuntu.

    Kubuntu has distracting screen flashing.
    Mint KDE never even flickers.

Mint update and software managers are easier to navigate.

  15. Thanks for a great distro. I would suggest that desired screen resolution be incorporated into the installer, right after language and keyboard set up for the next release (Sarah). If a user select English as language, there should be no more than a few English versions and the total number of languages should be limited to this figure. This would save the size of the distro.

  16. It’s sad to see not latest KDE4 (4.14.2) when in Kubuntu 4.14.3.
Devs please UPDATE KDE4 TO LATEST 4.14.3 its very good bugfix release.

  17. I upgraded Linux Mint from 17.2 to 17.3, however, my MESA and were not updated, they are still the same version I had previously. This disappoints me, because the new MESA drivers fix some game issues that I looked forward to get rid of, but I was unable to flawlessly update MESA on my own in previous LM version. Could somebody help me? How do I update MESA to the official 10.5.9?

  18. Great distribution! Just switched from Kubuntu 15.10 to Mint 17.3, because Plasma 5 is not (yet) stable, more an alpha or in best case an early beta version :-(.
So, please don’t upgrade to Plasma5 in Mint18 if it is not more stable.
    Thanks a lot.

  19. Just the best OS I have EVER RAN FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME WITH NO REBOOT AND NOT A GLICH. My Hat is OFF TO The Mint Team. When I first went to Linux years ago my kids would not touch it. After installing a game they like so well with the help of wine, now the dont use windows. They never use and all three pc;s are dual boot.I went from quick books to gnucash with no problem. Virus fighting is over.

  20. Hello, i am in love with Linux Mint 17.3 “Rosa”.
I start it from the usb and use it live on several systems. It start usual within about 45 sec on old and new configurations. And it is always unbelievable stable. I`m sorry my English is terrible, but i have to tell you about my experiments with your new Linux Mint! Congratulations!

  21. I upgaded to 17.3 Rosa (from Rebecca ie LM17.1). Cinnamon now only uses software rendering. I tried upgrading the Kernel to the recommended version but now, Cinnamon crashes (I’m slowly trying to find a kernel that won’t crash cinnamon). Mate, however is fine, and I think I’ll use this environnement for the time being.
Also, I noticed that when the computer is left idle for 15 minutes, I’m asked TWICE to enter my password (with different style of windows). Didn’t occur before.

  22. @ Lonz, totally agree!
Since Plasma 5 is missing a fundamental characteristic: pager settings / virtual desktops / desktops / different(and independent) widgets for each desktop. With this fatal error and intentional (to seem faster) with a graphical primitive (see Window System Configurations), this system is an attempt to deceive users, an act of sabotage spirit KDE, a kind of Windows 10 transvestite!

  23. Why is it that I cannot get my bluetooth to work? The app “blueman” does not install. I have a bluetooth speaker that works very well with a tablet, but not mint 17.3 on my pc. It does not work with windows 10, but I quit using that anyway. For me Mint 17.3 really is the way to go.
    Thank you.

Edit by Clem: KDE has its own Bluetooth stack doesn’t it? I don’t think you need blueman (it’s mostly there for Xfce and MATE users, with Cinnamon users using cinnamon-bluetooth or blueberry in LMDE). Either way, don’t hesitate to paste the installation error message, you should be able to install it properly.

  24. When attempting to install Mint 17.3 KDE, from a USB stick, in live mode, it does not recognize any of my partitions. It shows my drive as having 1TB free, of 1TB. In reality, I have one partition for Windows 7, one partition for Linux, and one partition for files. Am I missing something?

  25. I started Linux Mint year-2014… tried out almost all the flavors… Cinnamon, Mate, KDE, XFCE and LMDE – They all work VERY WELL although my hardware seems to prefer MATE… Much faster with it and very stable too… 2-THUMBS UP! for all the guys behind all the efforts in making these OSes really fascinating! Even my Windows using friends are starting to get drawn to it… They are hook though with Windows Games! possibly the only reason they find it hard to shift to Linux… Hope the Mint team can come out with something to equalize this out!

  26. Why does LinuxMint KDE not support virtual windows, which are an integral part of KDE?

Even Micro$oft is trying to incorporate virtual windows but the Ubuntu camp seems to think that this feature is not necessary.

I wont go into the advantages of virtual windows but to drop a desirable, differentiating feature does not appear to be particularly smart.

  27. I ran previously with kubuntu, but with uncertain future, I came to LM kde 17. The upgrade to 17.3 is very good.

I’m now waiting for LM 18 and kde 5

    congratulations for your work !

  28. Is a patch available for CVE-2016-0728, the Linux kernel keyring bug reported by Perception Point earlier this week?

  29. Really hoping you keep offering users the option of installing KDE 4.x.x.

KDE’s “Visual Design Group” seem to have lost the ability to understand the basic concepts of HCI and UI/UX design. Mirroring Windows 8 is one of the worst things they could have done.

  30. I am a new user of linux mint, I just moved from windows to linux mint and I found it perfect
I just installed linux mint 17.3 cennamon rosa yesterday and followed the procedure of installation step by step according to linux team procedure. After updating the system, all was perfect. This morning when I wanted to use the software manager, I remarked that the main screen features icones have changed to a new features fonts, means not the original icons I had before. I updated the system and re-checked, the same, there is no change. my question: Is this normal? please advice.

  31. Thanks for another great one…but

17.2 is running so smooth I lost the appetite to upgrade…never happened to me before 🙁

  32. Excellent release. Was using LMDE 2 but I needed a KDE based release for some software. Using Lenovo X201 w/8GB and Crucial 240GB SSD.

  33. This does not work nor cinnamon version. When I start Pc from flash drive my monitor show Out Of Range. Previous version work.

  34. I have never seen so many people moaning about something they got for free !!!

Mint 17.3 KDE for me. I love it.
To everyone involved, a big thank you from me, and i hope more and more people appreciate the results of the talent on offer here.

    Best Regards
