  1. I see xfapplet’s version is the same as before. So there’s no need to modify it for MATE 1.6… or not? I mean, it depends on some libs which are removed from MATE 1.6 (e.g. matecorba).

Edit by Clem: Hi Monsta. You’re right, it won’t work with MATE 1.6. We ported mintMenu to MATE 1.6 but we didn’t port xfapplet. We need to talk to the MATE and Xfce devs to see who will be doing that and when (we’re interested in doing it if nobody else steps up, but it might take some time).

  2. I installed the RC on one of my computers and have noticed two small issues:

    1. When VLC goes into fullscreen the bottom panel is still visible…not the case for the default video player; and
    2. For some reason the floppy disk shows up as a removable device on the desktop and file manager even though there is no floppy disk drive in the computer.

Other than that it runs really fast and has brought new life to a slightly under powered machine. Thanks Clem and Mint developers…really appreciate all the great work you all do.

  3. Soy un fanático del escritorio XFCE, pero no logro coprender por que en mi Laptop el brillo de la pantalla por defecto es oscura, y al ingresar al escritorio tengo que subierle el brillo cada vez.

  4. @Clem: Maybe then it’s better to remove xfapplet from olivia repo until it’s ported to MATE 1.6? I think some of the users will try to get mintMenu and so they’d install a non-working applet – to their disappointment 🙂

  5. Liking it!

BUT logging out at random… was it because I added Docky? -can’t pin down what seems to be causing it yet…

    REALLY LIKING LM XFCE !!!!!

    Thanks

  6. I agree with #5 by Monsta above. If the xfce4-xfapplet-plugin can’t be installed maybe remove it from the repo for now?

  7. Trying from a live USB on elderly AMD Athlon 64X2 4200+, Asus M4N78SE 2GB, GeForce 7300 GT, works wonderful. Recognized my nvidia-pseudo-RAID right away, connected without problem to my phone wifi, French keyboard on an English setup without problems … all things I used to have problems with regularly. I’m so happy 🙂 I’ll do my backup and install. Thanks to all of you!

I experience slight scrolling issues – is it my playing with composite transparency ? On the other hand, no floppy icon on my screen, and no panel problem in VLC full screen.

  8. I had stated above (comment #8) that my LM XFCE 15 64bit was intermittently logging me out – it was – but it AINT no more!!!

    Now all is stable!

    LOVE THIS XFCE!

    THANKS LM TEAM!!!!!!!!

  9. Hi, I noticed Linux Mint was added to prism-break.org.

Is there a plan to add privacy-enhancing features (Jitsi, Pidgin+OTR, Thunderbird+Enigmail, etc) by default?

    Thanks!

  10. Another issue, something is messed up with the 32 bit OpenGL library path. I’m having to explicitly tell my games and Steam where to find the libraries. e.g.

    “export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib/; /usr/local/games/AnomalyWarzoneEarth/AnomalyWarzoneEarth”

  11. Love it!! Yet i can’t get over LXDE, there’s no sense in having XFCE and Mate…..they target the same audience. Having LXDE and Mate would make much more sense

  12. branimator@18

It’s possible that Clem is targeting the same audience with XFCE and MATE on purpose. The difference would be that XFCE is a bit lighter on system resources than MATE. Thus the said audience can have a relatively similar experience on a broader range of hardware.

This is not to say that your thought is totally ridiculous. LXDE is pretty slick too. But Clem is the one who has to decide how to allocate the overall team resources, and balance that against his user base and what MOST–but not ALL–users will want. So it’s not as if Clem pulled this out of a hat.

  13. I did a fresh install of this version and I still get the random logouts like I had on some other xfce based distros. As I’ve searched it’s said that there is a fix released for some of the other distros. Is that the case here?

  14. PB@

i know the team is overworking themselves and they had to make some cuts, i wasnt being critical.Besides one can always install lxde….but i would be nice to have an out of the box mint lxde. I’m perodnaly using both mate and cinnamon and they both pretty lightweight, i was using xfce before and i dont think xfce is really that much lighter than mate.

  15. know the team is overworking themselves and they had to make some cuts, i wasnt being critical.Besides one can always install lxde….but it would be nice to have an out of the box mint lxde. I’m personaly using both mate and cinnamon and they are both pretty lightweight.I was using xfce before and i don’t think xfce is really that much lighter than mate.

  16. Ah, have been hanging out for this! Xfce has quickly supplanted all others as my favourite.

Might wait until the full release though, just in case!

    Thanks Clem, you’re a gem.

  17. thanks for clarifying. to be sure, though, your statement that “there’s no sense in having XFCE and Mate” implied that Clem’s choosing XFCE over LXDE lacked reason or purpose. For the sake of argument, we’ll conclude that that was NOT a critical statement.

Again, though, it does imply that Clem made a rash decision, or one without any thought in regard to his target audience in major.

While XFCE is a bit heavier than LXDE, it is still significantly less than Mate, although that too can depend on how Linux in general behaves on a certain hardware platform. Overall, though, it is understood that XFCE is lighter, but provides much of the key environmental features of Gnome. Some of this is made possible with various Gnome libraries that XFCE uses, which is where it picks up a little more weight over LXDE.

Perhaps the difference–as you say–isn’t quite as noticeable any more. But it has been my experience that a mere 64MB of system memory can make a world of difference with XFCE, where as it almost won’t do anything for Gnome/MATE. I found this out by simply reducing graphics aperture in motherboard settings from 128MB to 64MB on an old Dell machine with just 512MB total system memory. It resulted in XFCE running annoying slow, to very usable. It just didn’t have that impact with MATE, needed another stick of 128MB to even start to see an impact. Just my very basic testing, nothing thoroughly conclusive.

  18. @Hugo Masse

Thanks for your reply and the github link with Clem’s comment.

I guess I was talking more about including privacy-enhancing programs by default than whether certain programs included in Mint violate users’ privacy.

I’m not sure what Flash or proprietary codecs do to be honest, but I’m looking forward to see more developments in this area.

    Thanks again.

  19. Great guys. I am glad another xfce edition has been developed. I was disappointed when xfce was dropped from lmde, Though i understand the logic.

Its good to see all the developments with all the editions of Olivia. So congrats team.

Are we likely to see any of the new features backported to the LTS?

    Ta

  20. @Mark #29
Well, after reading the github thorough comment from Clem, I get the idea that Mint is almost 100% free from proprietary software and that there are no plans to actively pursue anything else.

Would it be too difficult to install the apps you mentioned before (Jitsi, Pidgin+OTR, Thunderbird+Enigmail)? Perhaps you could write a tutorial on how to do that in the community! http://community.linuxmint.com

  21. Still claiming for LXDE, after 3 editions? Seriously?

I’m surprised LM hasn’t discontinued Xfce or even KDE in order to pursue their goals: forking Cinnamon from gnome and, perhaps, forking LM from Ubuntu, now that they’re planning to do their own thing with Mir and all that.

Is LXDE really much more lightweight than Xfce and MATE? An Openbox Mint, kind of like Crunchbang, would be awesome!

  22. @Hugo Masse #34
    > Would it be too difficult to install the apps you mentioned before

It’s not that it’s difficult to install these programs (for us geeks anyway), but I believe what’s installed by default and how default settings are configured affect people’s behaviour a lot, and in my opinion writing tutorials isn’t a solution.

See Dan Ariely’s post on how people react to the default environment:
    http://danariely.com/2008/05/05/3-main-lessons-of-psychology/

    Thanks for your reply anyways!

  23. Hugo Masse@35

I guess some are new to the community or just haven’t paid attention to the direction that Mint has taken over the past couple of years, hence the continual requests for DE’s that have been abandoned for now. Clem is always very clear on these matters, makes me chuckle every time someone makes these requests.

However, Clem has also made it very clear at this stage, that XFCE and KDE are a part of the Mint “goals.” Otherwise, they would have discontinued them by now. Not to say that won’t change in the near or far future.

My point is we can be reasonably confident that all of Clem’s offerings at any given time are playing a part in Mint’s overall goals. I have to trust that he has a more clear focus on the big picture than I do as just a single user, as if Clem has never made an attempt to inform us of Mint’s overall direction. Clearly he has made more of attempt than I would. And I admire that about the Mint team. I would long ago have said: It’s my project, mind your own business. Of course it’s that viewpoint that keeps me from ever pursuing such a large undertaking as Clem.

All that being said, it’s always been my personal goal to keep things in perspective, and trust that what Clem tells us is generally what we can expect to happen, barring various nuances and details that he has no control over, and are unforeseen.

  24. hi Clem,

thanks for this new release of Mint-Xfce.

I just installed the new Xfce-Desktop via Synaptics besides Cinnamon. But: I think, I’ll replace my Cinnamon-Desktop with Xfce, because here everything works so nicely. Also the panel-Addons work fine. Especially the animated wheater-applet is really cool!! 😀 Thanks Clem!!

The only problem is still UEFI. How can I get my installation to support UEFI? Currently, UEFI is disabled on my machine as well as Secure-Boot.

After installing it, I switched my panels transparent via the Compositing-settings of Xfce. But two little Questions: how can I get my menues transparent and how can I get Emerald to work with Mint-Xfce??

    Greetings
    Mintkatze

  25. @ 38 Niccola,

how to use the Xfce-panels and their stock-applets?? Just click on a free space of your panel and then in the popping-up menue, select panel and “add new elements”.

Then a menue will pop up and you can select all your elements. You can also make them transparent with Xfce’s own Compositing-settings. You can also set the size of your panel (hight, width and so on).

There is also the option to set custom panel-background.

So this is really a good desktop, which is responding fast and smooth and it should be kept up and be developed on into the future! Xfce-Desktop is a must-have besides Cinnamon-Desktop.

    Greetings
    Mintkatze

  26. Linux shoul be improve hardware acceleration support on flash player by VGA and AUDIO dedicated cards. Mesa drivers still are faraway from better as well as alsa for hardware utilization.

  27. I downloaded the 32 bit version but it was saved on my PC as a Movie file and not as an ISO file – Any suggestions ?

  28. @PB #39

You’re absolutely right. That’s my perception, too. I think that’s what makes LM stand out in this sea of distros: Clem’s sensible decisions; or as Dedoimedo put it:

“With Cinnamon [and, if I may add, Linux Mint in general], there is … a close-knit brotherhood, a-la King Henry V on the eve of the Battle of Agincourt”. http://netrunner-mag.com/?p=2912

    Hugo Masse
    “In Clem We Trust” 😉

  29. I downloaded the 32 bit version but it was saved as a movie file and not as ISO file.
    Any suggestions?

  30. @ Rob McLean #45

    Watch it! 😉

If adding .iso at the end of the name doesn’t do the trick (and if the icon and label change, you still have to check md5sum!), sorry, mate: I’d download it again if I were you.

  31. @Mark #37

Very nice read, indeed, I loved it! I was also addicted to the LXDE edition; when it was discontinued I tried to replicate it by installing LXDE from the repos and some tweaking. Forget it! No matter the DE, you know you are using an original LM when you use it. LXDE was the best application of that DE I’ve ever used, most others don’t feel that good. Now, I’m happy moving things around in MATE and Cinnamon. 🙂

  32. @ 45 Rob McLean,

that’s bad for you!! The only thing you can do is: reburn it as .iso-file! Then do a fresh install and before that: save your data!! This is typical beginners-error… 🙂

    Greetings
    Mintkatze

  33. @ all,

does anybody have an idea, how I can get Emerald running in LinuxMint Xfce Olivia??

It does not work for me although I have found some instructions by Webupd8. They have a ppa-repository. But: these steps do not work out. Any suggestions??

    Greetings
    Mintkatze

  34. @Hugo Masse #47

    >Very nice read, indeed, I loved it! I was also addicted to the LXDE edition;

I think you replied to a wrong post… I was talking about including privacy-enhancing software by default, not DE.

  35. I must be missing something in regard to Rob Mclean’s issue of downloading a file into a movie file. Really?! I must admit I have never run into that before. First time for everything I suppose.

Obviously, this is quite common though, as Mintkatze calls it a “typical beginners-error.”

In all seriousness, is this a common problem?

  36. @ 50 Huigo Masse,

yes, this is the Information I already had and I followed these steps, but it does not work! XFCE does not take over the Emerald-Themes!! It alwas switches back to the gtk-Window-border and does not apply it. So: does anyboda have an idea??

    Greetings
    Mintkatze

p.s. I also know, that Emerald will not be developed onwards as the developers of webupd8 tell.

  37. @ 52 PB,

This user did the following error: he downloaded the iso-file correctly, but did an error at burning! He burned it as a normal data-file and not as .iso-file! This was his error.

And burning an .iso-file an a wrong dara-format, this is a common “beginners-error”.

    Greetings
    Mintkatze

  38. @Mark #51

You’re right, I had just read PB’s reply on LXDE and the things I said got stuck in my head. But I think it’s relevant: When it’s already there and as a default, you tend to use it simply because of that. Are you suggesting there should be a Linux Mint Free Edition? (I don’t know if that name would be accurate)… sound interesting!

  39. hi again,

I just tried to get LinuxMint 15 Xfce installed via UEFI-boot. But all I get is: no bootable device, although I created a usb-Bootstick via unetbootin. I tried to boot from it with Secure-Boot disabled and UEFI-boot enabled.

But: all I get is an error saying: no bootable device please restart the system.

So how do I get LinuxMint 15 installed with UEFI-Bootmode??

    Greetings
    Mintkatze

edit: The machine is a Toshiba-Notebook Satellite C850-1LQ

  40. BTW, does anyone know why firefox-locale-es and firefox-locale-zh-hans are installed in addition to firefox-locale-en if I choose English during the system installation? 🙂

  41. Mintkatze@54

Thanks for explaining, but I did not understand it that way. It sounded as if the file was downloaded as a movie file. Generally, though, Brasero, k3b, or any other disk burning utilities will automatically configure correctly to burn as .iso. Should be pretty mindless, but that is my own experience. Can not speak for others. Learn something new everyday.

    Thanks for your input.

  42. hi people,

I have another bad experience for you all. The dream of getting Compiz with Emerald to work on LinuxMint 15 failed badly. I managed to crash the whole system.

The first test was with Xfce-Desktop, installed via Synaptic and then following the steps explained at askubuntu. This resultet in a flickering and unusable desktop.

Then I tried with MATE-Desktop and this one ended up in that way, that the session through me out directly at login. It did not let me login anymore.

And then I tried to get back to Xfce (selecting it at the login), but: the same happened again. Then at the second try to boot up, it ended in a black screen and the third try ended in a blank screen only the Wallpaper visible.

So: it seems, Compiz and Emerald do no longer work with LinuxMint 15. Forget it or your will break your whole installation!! I can only warn.

You might ask, how I got a working system back then? The simple solution is: by doeing a complete fresh install. There is no other choice.

So as final to say: it’s not nice, that Compiz and Emerald do no longer work with Gnome3 (Cinnamon, Xfce-Dekstop and also MATE).

  43. I tried it out as a vm on vmware player, and am having install issues. The live machine cannot hit archive.ubuntu.com when installing, though I can ping it from a terminal. Mint XFCE 14 does not have this problem. This problem extends beyond the automated installer, a
    sudo apt-get install nmap
also hangs upon connecting to archive.ubuntu.com.

  44. I installed this Xfce and noticed three things.

    1) The installer is now offering to make an LVM, but we have no guide for how to do this successfully for those of us who aren’t used to using one. Every time that I try to use it, it fails. We need a CLEAR step-by-step guide if you want more of us to use it. The tutorial section doesn’t have one that I can find, so far.

    2) Network printing doesn’t seem to work now. Yes, I read Ubuntu’s release notes about CUPS, but is anyone ELSE having the same problem?

    3) When I let the installer use the normal default method of installing, it created a huge swap area taking up HALF of the 16 Gb memory stick that I used. Um, really? HALF? After installing only a few necessary programs, I had about <400 Mb of free space and unexpectedly filled that up downloading another .iso! (I think that may have made the install fail, and I had to re-install a 2nd time.) This computer has 8Gb of RAM, so it is very unlikely I will ever get to use 8 Gb of swap. I had to manually re-install to get something reasonable (which is one reason I wanted to use LVM in the first place).

So, I hope these issues can be addressed before the final release.

  45. @ 64: dealley,

    to your first point:

yes, I step-by-step-guide for LVM-installation would be good for us users. This is really a necessety.

And another necessety is a step-by-setp-guide how to install LinuxMint on UEFI-machines. I do not get it managed. It even doesn’t boot the intall-media. For now, I had to disable secure-Boot as well as UEFI-boot and switch back to CSM-boot.

So there a step-by-step-guide for this is also a nessecety for us users. I am having bad trouble with that!! Please do us a tutorial Clem!!

The to the second point: I do not need network-printing. I have my hp-printer plugged in via usb. But: I have the necessary tools (hardware-tools) to connect it to the network.

    To your third point:
I do not make installations on usb-Sticks. I use them only to boot up for installation onto my machines. I never tested that. And to be honest: 8GB of hdd-spce is pretty poor. You should have at least 500 or better 750 GB of hadd or even more. Even RAM should be at least at 4GB or even higher!!

But what remains is this UEFI-problem, where we really need a guide, how to manage that.

    Greetings
    Mintkatze

  46. If you experience random logouts/session-crashes, upgrade xfce4-session to version 4.10.0-2ubuntu1.1 by installing the following package:

    64-bit: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/x/xfce4-session/xfce4-session_4.10.0-2ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb

    32-bit: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/x/xfce4-session/xfce4-session_4.10.0-2ubuntu1.1_i386.deb

Please let me know if this solves the problem for you.

For more info on the problem: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-session/+bug/1104435

  47. ddalley@64

You can go and and change swap partition quite easily. What the system is doing may be assigning swap by multiplying your system memory by 2. That’s fine, but if you dropped that down to 2GB, even 1GB in a pinch, you would be okay, especially for a USB stick install.

If you are looking for a small portable system just to get a few thing done from time to time, and won’t be storing too many files, your USB stick install will work just fine, providing you shrink the SWAP area. But you have to go into it knowing those limitations.

Some people will tell you that that is a bad thing, and will insist on HUGE hard drive storage. Clearly, drive storage is completely dependant on your personal needs. If you want to store a bunch of music and movies, then obviously you would have need for much greater storage. But to create a rule that ONLY 500GB or bigger drives will work is pure nonsense.

Please folks, let’s keep it real, and not turn this post into a brain-drain. There’s is already too much misinformation out there. Each of us has our own personal needs, so a little common sense goes a long long way.

  48. ddalley@64

Please describe your network printing issues. Network printing seems to work fine on the PC’s that I have installed XFCE on. That can be a somewhat broad topic, so you will have to provide more details.

    Thanks.

  49. Firstly, I install “normally” to USB mem-sticks, as if they are hard drives. I don’t use casper files. I have been doing it this was for over 5 years, so this took me by surprise. If I could have shrunken the swap area to make room for a larger /home, I would have, but I didn’t have the LVM working. It was easier just to restart.

The printer set-up goes through the motions, but it just won’t print anything, not even a test page, so there is nothing to lead me to the source of the problem.

  50. Help! Having trouble installing Xfce on an older IBM ThinkPad. DVD boots OK. After I double click on “Install Linux Mint” eventually I get a welcome box that wants a user name within 8 seconds or 30 if I click in the box) and after that a password. No matter what I put in it says “incorrect user name and password”. If I leave it blank, it re-boots in the Mint desktop again. Did I miss something somewhere?

  51. ddalley@69

Understood on the partitioning. I do hope you understand my somewhat pointed comment was directed to the critical remark that you should be using gigantic hard drives. It was not directed at you, but to the source of that comment. I just don’t understand where people make these rules about hardware specifications. Obviously you have had experience with much smaller drives, as have I, and they work great.

On the printer issue, I assume this very same printer has worked without issue on other systems?

Since you can connect to the printer via the network, it’s doubtful the network itself is no longer supported, as you commented on. A couple of questions though:

-Does the “find network printer” utility find the printer automatically, or do you have to feed it an IP? If you have to manually feed the IP, then likely something is not configured correctly on the network side.

-Are the print jobs still in cue? If so, clear out the cue, and try sending another job, but take a look at the printer properties dialogue and take notice of the printer status while you send another job. A test print would work well in this case. If you have another problem, there should be some sort of message that gets displayed in the status line that might tell us something.

-Printer make and model? What driver is being automatically chosen? The system doesn’t always choose best driver. Had this happen with Xerox Phaser 6280, needed to download .ppd file for that one.

  52. Understood about the drive sizes. I knew he couldn’t help. 2 Gb sticks used to be enough, but nowadays not even 8 Gb is enough, if you want to actually _use_ one, so it’s 16 Gb and up for me, now. Regardless, though, the installer should take some of this into consideration when it is _automatically_ picking partition sizes for us. It would be interesting to see what it does with an 8 Gb stick.

I just looked at the smb.config file and it isn’t set up to be used in this way, again. I will edit it and nnswitch.config and check it again. After this, it should work. Since I had access to the NAS box, I thought these config files had finally been set up to use, but I was wrong. One can only hope.

  53. ddalley,

Obviously you have a more complex network configuration than I’m familiar with. Sorry if my questions did not pertain to your set-up. I’ve set several network printers up at home and at work with TCP/IP environment–work place being much more robust, and have yet to have issues–all this without any type of file editing. System generally just finds the printer and installs it. As I mentioned before, the only issues I’ve ever had with network printers have all been related to drivers, which, in reality, has nothing to do with the network itself.

I extend you best wishes on resolving this.

  54. Does this distro bring Wine inside the ISO? I want to install this in a PC without Internet acess to play some Windows games…

  55. Not sure if this is a known bug yet or not, but upon trying to load compiz it results in a borked system. Compiz –replace& doesn’t load window borders at all, and when resuming back to xfce’s default window manager it causes the programs to crash and force log out.

  56. @Gabriel
    >> ” When VLC goes into fullscreen the bottom panel is still visible…not the case for the default video player;”

As with previous versions, there are multiple ways that VLC “goes fullscreen”: it depends on whether it is windowed or maximized at the time you tell VLC you want to use all the screen. (If it’s windowed first, the bottom panel disappears; if it’s maximized before, the bottom panel appears.) It took me a minute to figure this out, too!

I’ve been using Mint since version 5, and I don’t believe Clem has ever included Wine since then. It is the same with this release. My guess is it blows up the .iso way too much, especially for something that not everybody is interested in. Yes, I love Wine, and is one of the first things I install, but alas, is up to end user to install after the fact.

  59. @Clem item 66.
If you experience random logouts/session-crashes, upgrade xfce4-session to version 4.10.0-2ubuntu1.1
Installing this solved the problem for me.

  60. Queremos Mint LXDE! por favor Clement!!! LXDE. Tenemos computadoras que necesitan un Sistema Operativo ágil, seguro, bello, y práctico como Mint. Por favor!!!!!!!!!

  61. I am working on a Gateway NV7915u with an Intel i3 processor, 8gb ddr3, with a 256 ssd. I was able to install this in safe mode and can only operate in safe mode as when it boots normal my display shuts off. If I close the screen and open it back it it flashes the desktop for a second then shuts back off. It has Intel HD Graphics built in and its not being recognized. I really like this Linux and would love to get that little issue fixed. So far this issue has happened with Linux Mint 15, Linux Mint 14, and Linux Fedora 18. Ive tried several fixes Ive found online but none seem to take. Any and all help really appreciated, I really want to get to use this Linux.

  62. Really liking this release, seems much smoother/quicker than previous versions-however cannot get HDMI sound working either with recommended fix or using previous GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash radeon.audio=1″.My hardware is ATI Radeon HD3000 any idea’s Clem and team/anyone? otherwise a huge well done !!!

Edit by Clem: I didn’t update the release notes as we’re still investigating but I believe the problem with HDMI sound was related to the kernel. It was a regression from Ubuntu on their -17 kernel and I believe it was fixed in -23 and later. We’re using -25 here in this Xfce edition so it should be fine. The sound module we inherited from GNOME is a bit complicated to use when it comes to enabling the right output profile, it might just be a configuration problem at this stage.

  63. Many thanks for info Clem. Just as an update can get HDMI sound output from VLC Player via sound=output device but not by selecting HDMI via audio mixer from any other app?

Edit by Clem: Ok, it’s definitely down to configuration then. I can’t promise we’ll make progress on this in Cinnamon 2.0, but we’ll sure try to make it less complicated to set the correct profile there in the PA mixer.

  64. The installation from an USB stick onto a ThinkPad x230 with SSD went flawlessly, however, after that it booted into a default Xfce environment, without any customization (gtk theme, fonts etc.) applied. I was asked whether I would like the default or an empty panel.

The desktop was fine when I ran a live session from the USB stick. How could I restore exactly the Linux Mint Xfce look for my installed system? Thx very much in advance!

  65. Sorry, it was completely my fault. Now everything works as expected. Very nice distro, many thanks to Clem!

  66. Hi thank you for this relase, but i have a problem when i enter in the desktop after the logo in the live-version ( usb ) the desktop is grey, the menu bar blinks when i try to click in the menu, after 3 clicks the panel dissapers. With the result : a grey wallpaper without icons, without the panel. Then i can use the tty1 (ctrl+alt+f1) “startx” . And everything comeback, but only looks ” normal “. When you want Install, clicking the icon it dont do anything, when you open the folder desktop and click the icon it do nothing. All this in my netbook ACER AOA-150 in a fresh install (Format>Unetbootin+ISO) without configurations only DEFAULT when i start. i think is because the compositive ( Shadows below the windows and other visual things) XFCE session, but i dont know how to disable them. in the Mate 1.6 if a problem like that i can ” sudo mdm ” but it dont works. Please Clem help me,

  67. Is it possible to include the following packages in the iso:
openssh-server sshfs rdesktop vpnc screen keepassx gigolo
    Keep installing them.

  68. Well, since we can’t get mintMenu on this edition anymore it’s nice to have Whisker Menu as a workable solution.

  69. Hi Clem,

one big problem here: I can’t get VPN to work. That’s the same on all desktops. So there I need help please.

The normal way as is was ever, does no longer work. I wanted to set up a connection with vpnbook, but all I get in terminal is an Xauth-error.

I can put in the whole Terminal-output if you want. I saved it here.

So can you give a helping hand and help me with this??

    Thank you in advance,
    Mintkatze
