Summary:

  • The mintCast project continues on it success and is quickly becoming one of the most popular Linux podcasts available to listeners. Check it out if you haven’t already done so. The mintCast team is also often present on IRC where it’s easy for them to keep in touch with both their audience and the Linux Mint development team.
  • A lot of development and bug fixes were done in April for the upcoming Linux Mint 11. The Update Manager in particular was greatly improved and made its way to both the Mint 11 and LMDE repositories. The Software Manager received many improvements too, though these weren’t revealed yet.
  • We received a $1,000 donation this month. Although it’s his 3rd donation to Linux Mint, the Canadian donor wants to remain anonymous. This important donation had a positive impact on our monthly stats, April being the last month in our release cycle and traditionally a quiet period from a financial point of view. Our overall daily income went down by 4%.
  • I apologise for releasing these statistics a little late. The RC release for Linux Mint 11 should be here in a few days, 2 of its 4 ISOs already passed QA. The stable release should be available in the end of May. We’ll also be working on a special magazine edition of the Linux Identity Kit for Linux Mint 11 which will promote the release and guide users through its use and installation in the USA.

  1. umm what’s a Linux Identity Kit? Here’s to hoping that 2011 is the best year for Linux Mint!!!

  2. Looking forward to the release candidate for Linux Mint 11 and seeing the changes for the Update and Software Managers.

    Cheers!

  3. You should include a (+/-) in your stats, to tell us if your up or down from last year. This would be a number or a % depending on the data given. Like:

    Donations: $4637 (+75)
    or
    LMDE: 13.5%(-0.1%)

  4. Also, THANK YOU for staying with Gnome 2, LMDE wil support our Cydia repo. A repo for packages that are used on Jailbroken iPhone/iPod touch’s 🙂 Its not a public repo.. yet 🙂

  5. Congrats Clem! Linux Mint is just continuing to steam roll it’s way to the top of the distro pile! And for good reason!

Any word on getting Dolphin (the Wii emulator) to work a little better in Mint 11?

  6. Wow ! Really impressed. This IS the BEST linux Distro ! Linux Mint is the easiest to install from a live cd. I have had other Distro’s crash after installing from a live cd. Ubuntu is ok, but Mint developers really have been hard at work. Mint is a beautiful and rich OS. I have recommended Mint to all my customers as the REAL replacement to Microsoft Windows . I have been MS Free for 3 weeks now and loving it.
I am going to place a link to your site on our webpage. I will be proud to send a donation to the Linux Mint team !

  7. Thank you Clem and the rest of the crew behind Mint for your effort.
I go with NictraSavios, would make it easier to read the stats.
BTW: Got my t-shirt from HELLOTUX (just wearing). It is nice, looking forward to get some more (in white or red?). Some more common payment technique would be nice (had to ask a friend which has a credit card).

    thx Thilo

  8. Linux Mint,

I’ve been a loyal Linux Mint user since version 5. Thank you for all of your hard work. I hope this distro keeps on going for a long time. Q. Do you receive enough donations, truthfully? I have been wanting to donate. Next paycheque, I will.

    Best regards,

  10. I’m REALLY looking forward to some greater strides in LMDE. =]

I love that it has the speed and stability of Debian, and past the rough edges it’s just such an amazing system. 🙂

    Thank you guys so much!
