Summary:

  • In August, LMDE (Linux Mint Debian) was finalized. The rolling distribution based on Debian is now being tested by our QA team and a public release should be out early this month.
  • The Fluxbox edition is also in testing and waiting to be approved for a stable release.
  • August was by far the most quiet month we ever got to see. The activity on the blog, on the forums, the amount of emails received, the donations, and even the sponsorships were extremely low compared to previous months. In terms of income, we’re not doing too bad. We’re down 2.7% but we’re hoping for a more dynamic month in September.
  • Early September will see the release of the new anticipated Debian-based distribution: LMDE. And we’re also really excited to start the work on the new Linux Mint 10 which will be released in November.
  • If like many you were away in August, we’d like to welcome you back and we look forward to an exciting month. The Summer was relaxing, but Autumn is going to be fun!

  1. The Xfce Edition this time was very very stable.

And I am eagerly waiting for LMDE and hope that it would better the Ubuntu base.

    Best of luck for “Julia”

  2. I also can’t wait to put LMDE on my desktop. I’m running Crunchbang Statler (based on Debian) on my laptop and it works great!

  3. Looking forward to LMDE and if LMDE takes off like I think it might, who knows what might happen? Seems to me that this new version of Mint just might fill the bill for a lean, fast, rolling, “works out-of-the-box” Debian derived distro that a lot of folks have been clamoring for, for a number of years now.

I seriously need to win the lottery so I can pass a few 100s of thousands to Clem and company to ensure they can keep up with future demands. 😀

  4. Yeeee LDME!! But i was thinking about the decision to take off broadcom drivers.. i need them..there will by ” hardware drivers” module?
I hope that this debian edition will run on my netbook, it could be the first one in all the linux world..

  5. It looks like, so far, 100% of the responses mention our will to have LMDE.

I’m not different. 🙂 Please keep us informed about the LMDE development. Maybe it could be a nice Christmas gift for us all, couldn’t?

By the way… @WoodCAT: Isn’t it FAST? I got surprised with CrunchBang! I’ve tested CrunchBang 8.04… until I changed to Mint 8 LXDE, and later to Mint 9 LXDE.

Congratulations and keep up the good work!

  6. Clem, I’m sure if August was down was because people are on holidays, summer is always slow for everything. Myself have been busy attending family needs that has prevented me to participate macking comments regularly. Hopfully September will be bussiness as usual and with the release of LMDE there would be an increase of Linux Mint fans jumping into the Mint’s wagon.

    Linux Mint really rocks!!!

    manny

  7. @Ikey Doherty: sooner than I think?

    That’s some GREAT news!!!

By the way: will it be a LiveCD/Live DVD version, such as the other Mint distros?

Thanks and keep up the GOOD work!

  8. hi to all

I like to use this o.s. and I use to recommend it to the newbies.

Its stable, complete and freeeee 😉

    Pleasse, continue developing it 🙂

  9. First, how did Mr. Rashed Al R. of Saudi Arabia manage to donate $0 and get mentioned 🙂

And second and most important, I understand from the community website that Fluxbox stable has been released as well as the Debian-based spin, but where does one download the isos?

    Thanks

  10. LinuxMint is the most user friendly easy to run operating system I have installed!!! Its quick to install, looks professional, feels perfect and is a some thing that might change the opinion of linux in many peoples minds after a session on Linux Mint!!!

Thanks for the operating system I luv it, super work!!!

  11. @Clem,ikey and others
Don’t know if the above link points to the final version
Tried to install it on virtualbox (host is Mint 9 Isadora 64)
    Problems
Trying to install on the virtualdisk
1.The installer trying to detect partitions for ever (using gparted and making formated partitions with live cd BEFORE installing LMDE to the disk problem solved)
2.The installer proceeds Ok until a message ‘Cleanning APT’ is displayed fror ever
Your only option is to click “quit”
    so you click
    you cannot continue
    you power off the machine
    you restart
you are entering the LMDE desktop
BUT don;t know what is missing

    Thanks

  12. @dp:
    1) That detection error exists because the virtual HDD has
no MFT. Make the table first..
    2) Error is known, look at the ISO testing page.
    3) run sudo dpkg –configure -a after you boot, problem solved.
    4) I wasn’t aware that there had been a release announcement, so
errors before an official release? :))

  13. @ikey
Trying to help – just see it as an early user debuging
I’ve run all these, so there is nothing missing
    thanks
    aurevoir

  14. I am testing the LMDE live-dvd. There are 245 recommended updates available at the moment. Why so many? Firefox and OpenOffice.org are the latest available. Thunderbird and Pidgin are only one release behind. Are there really so many/frequent package updates in Debian that it got to this number since you guys packaged this ISO? :/

  15. @kneekoo

do you know where to download the iso for mint debian? i wanted to test it on virtualbox.

or if anyone out there knows where i can find the iso for mint debian, please share the link

    thank you.

  16. I’ve just read the decision that clem had decided to reject LMDE iso.
I’m very surprised because in my linux experience my compaq mini 311 gave me critical problems(helena did not boot, as ubuntu 9.10, debian, arch, mephis, meego and tons of distributions).
I’ve installed LMDE this 8 hours ago and it works. zero problems(yeah my broadcom 4312 didn’t work as usually, but i’ve solved it using squeeze guide for broadcom).I’m not an expert user, i don’t understand some things when i’m doing them (for example the bcm4321 driver), but the user experience of this distribution isn’t so bad, there are only some little bugs. why this decision?
oh yes, and where i can signal bugs?(there is a noisy sound when i shutdown..)
    (sorry for my english)

  17. Linux Mint Debian Edition Rolling Release THIS Month????

    OMG
    OMG
    OMG

    Mint Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  18. Love Mint……
Been using it since Mint7. Just installed Isadora and love it so far. Love the fact that everything just works, including all my multimedia files. Hope that the new version based on Debian will still let me play all my multimedia stuff as this is what I use my computer for mainly.
    Keep up the good work…
