Husse

I don’t really know how to say this. Our friend and fellow team member Mats Geier passed away. Some of us have been working with him for 3 years now. Husse and I were in contact almost every day and I find it really hard to cope with his loss. I’m sure many people in the community will be deeply touched.

Many of you knew him as “Husse”. He was everywhere, especially on the forums, making sure everyone was welcome and that every question was answered. I remember he used to keep an eye on the “unanswered threads” list and would even reply to some of my team announcements with “replied” just to make sure it wasn’t getting in the way of him supporting everybody that might need it. He was also taking care of the weekly newsletter and he was starting to triage bugs on Launchpad. Husse was also helping with the testing of the ISOs as much as he could and he was a very important member of our team. When the community grew, he filled the gap between the users and the developers and he was the one bringing important things to our attention, and keeping us close to you all. He was passionate, he was extremely friendly and he’ll be missed tremendously.

With him gone we’ve lost our ears, our eyes and what made us close to our community. We’ve also lost a friend and that’s going to be really hard to get over. We’re going to need all of you to help each others more than before, to welcome each others and to make up for all the little things Husse used to accomplish on his own. There’s no question that Linux Mint wouldn’t be what it is today if it wasn’t for Husse and that without him our community just isn’t going to work as well. If there’s one thing we can do in his memory it is to keep up the quality he’s set and to continue to make it enjoyable for people to join and interact within our community.

As for me, I don’t feel very well to say the least. We’ll wait until next week to make any announcements about Linux Mint. You can find things out by yourself in the mirrors and on the community website but I just can’t bring you positive news with a smile right now.

Husse: If you hear us, we’re going to miss you a lot.

My condolences to friends and family and to all who knew and cared for Mats. Let’s each take the time we need to think of him and to remember him.

  1. Husse, you were the best thing that ever happened to our community.
Not only did you help us with our issues, many a time you helped
me on a personal level as a friend. You will be sorely missed.
My heart goes out to the family, a million sorrows and condolences..

    Requiescat In Pace

  2. No
I was talking to him just a couple of weeks ago, ten days. We were discussing a set of bugs. So fast.

You will be missed. And I will try to put more time into the community, for Mats sake.

  3. Min medkänsla går till Husses familj.
Vi förlorade en god, vänlig man.
Tack så mycket och hejdå Husse.

    h.

  4. I am a man but this makes me cry. I do like Mint a lot – and he was one of the good spirits. Everybody reading / participating in the forums knows that.
Husse your impact will be everlasting and we will not forget.
We thank you all for what you were. Rest in peace.

  6. This is… terrible. Husse was one of the main pillars in the Mint palace. I was getting used to read his replies everywhere in the forum, even in the most obscure threads. He was really dedicated to the community, more than everyone I’ve ever seen.

    This is really, really sad.

  7. It’s so strange to feel what i’m feeling right now. I never knew him personally but “speaked” with him in the forums a lot of times, and hundreds and hundreds of post wrote by him helped me with Mint.
    I really feel bad, sad.
People like him, helping other every time is what is missing in this world.
Thanks Husse! And enjoy wherever you are!
    Hernán.

  8. The Mint forum is the best I have ever come across. It is civil, people care about each other and treat each other with respect. It is also a deep well of knowledge. We all owe this to Husse, the forum is a direct reflection of him and his persona. We all owe him a great debt of gratitude for creating the warmest and most friendly online community on the Internet. You will be deeply missed my friend…

  9. I’ve only been using Mint since October and really appreciate it. I read the forums everyday though I’ve never registered on them. Husse must have had an impact on me in that small time because I feel very sad about this news, from his photo and comments I saw him as a friend. Linux attracts good, open, giving people generally because of the spirit of open source. He was one good man. God bless him for caring.

    Stuart.

  10. I concur with clem’s observation… Husse was everywhere! Husse was helpful and was always gentle and kind with that help!
Let’s model that in our continued interactions with each other, to continue Mint’s stance and claims!

I pray for the Geier family’s comfort in their loss.

    God bless
    Doug

  11. Husse my friend – I will miss you dearly. You were the force and clarity behind Mint and the forums. I will cherish our many emails and PM’s. I just found out about this and am stunned. Peace!

  12. I love that he ended every newsletter with “Enjoy life…”. Always lifted the spirits when I’d read that. I sure hope he enjoyed his own.

    RIP, fella.

  13. I would like to offer my condolences to his family and friends.

I am fairly new to Linux and Mint, but have seen posts by Husse all over the forum.

I’m sorry to hear of the demise of one of the key members of the team which brings what I think is a excellent distribution of Linux which is my favorite.

I hope the Mint community can carry on the good work of Husse, continue to develop and share the best distribution of Linux, and continue his tradition of making the forum a welcoming, friendly, and informative place

  14. :´( will miss you…

i want next release a “in memory of mats geier” under the mint logo on wallpaper 🙁 (LTS)

  15. Wow. I didn’t really know Husse as I only started with Mint/Linux recently, and I had a few problems starting out, but he was the one name that jumped out at me on the forums as he was posting everywhere, and was especially helpful to me too. That’s just…wow. That feel he brought to things really made me perservere with Linux, and it’s a shame to know that such a presence is no longer with us. From what I saw, through and through, he was just a real rare gem of a guy.

I can tell the world won’t be the same without him.

Condolences to his family and friends, and may he rest in peace. May we continue on in his spirit of nature, and follow the example that he showed.

  16. Hi Husse,

Thank you for all you’ve done. You’re name was a constant factor in Mint. Rest, rest in peace!

    kage

  17. This is so very sad. My sympathies & condolences to his family. He was a very special individual in so many ways. Clem’s words are an understatement, yet I don’t think any of us could have said it better.

  18. DEATH TO DEATH!
    Thanks HUSSE!
Even though code-names for MINT have always been feminine and in a strict alphabetical order, couldn’t the name for MINT 9 be HUSSE???
    Cheers all!

  19. I never knew him, but you only had to read a few of his posts on here to find out that he was one of the good guys–exactly the kind of person a community like this needs (but doesn’t always get). Rest easy, Husse.

  20. Its still so difficult to believe it.
Husse was one of the best people a Linux community could think of, I’m really sorry 🙁

So since I’m not good with words:
    Rest In Piece Mats.

  21. This is a great loss to the tech community. The quality to this top notch OS is the testament of his contribution. My deepest condolences to his family.May peace be upon him.

  22. Clem has really said it all already. Husse was the best, and was without a doubt everywhere doing everything he could. He will be missed greatly, this is tragic.

I wish condolences to everyone, we have all worked with him indirectly as part of the Mint community. Keep his family in your thoughts.

  23. Mats is one of very few people I’ve seen who possessed both deep substantive expertise and a very friendly, welcoming personality. He was truly a model for others to aspire to. I offer my sincere condolences to his family.

  24. I’ve never seen a photo of Husse before, but I think it captures the spirit of the man perfectly. What a tremendous loss. Clem, pass on my condolences to the family, if possible.

  25. Să-i fie tărîna uşoara şi Dumnezeu să-l odihnească în pace. Condoleanţele mele familiei , rudelor şi prietenilor lui

  26. From the first day I decided to install Mint and join the forums Husse was there to help me. I didn’t know him, he didn’t know me and yet he spent a lot of his time helping me and many, many others. Now that’s something you do not see very often these days. I knew him only from the forums, but from what I have seen I can say he was a good man.
It is a big loss for the whole community.

Now we must double our efforts and work really hard to make the community even better, so that Husse (wherever he is right now) could be proud of us.

  27. Here is how I remember Husse: people may know Linux and Mint, and some of them know how to explain things. Husse knew Linux and Mint and how to explain things, but just as important, he treated everyone decently, with respect. He was always civil and he always recognized others’ dignity. Those were his most valuable contributions.

  28. Rest in peace Husse.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,
Love leaves a memory no one can steal.

  29. Oh my…I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. Any word on how he died? I can’t remember for sure, but I wanna say he helped me with an issue I had once with Mint. Condolences from the USA.

  30. Husse is Swedish for a male who takes care of a dog, derived from Husbonde, old Swedish for family father.
I think that characterizes what Mats did for Linux Mint and everyone who had anything to do with it. Seemed to be everywhere from bugmanagement to taking care of the individual, maybe he took care of us as if we were his little puppies. Even tough I only directly spoke to him via emails a couple of times he seemed to have a hand in everything around Linux Mint. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

It seems so unreal. I was talking to him about a bug no less than ten days ago.

Vila i frid Mats Husse Geier, vi saknar dig.

  31. How ’bout naming a next version after him (partially)? I know you stay alphabetical but maybe something like Linux Mint 9 Isadora (a.k.a. the Husse Memorial Release)?

  32. He will be missed. May he rest in peace. I only ever spoke with him once or twice via the forums, but read hundreds of his posts. He was always kind and very friendly.

We must come together and continue pushing forward with Linux Mint. He would want that. He cared so much about this distribution, I know he would hate to see it go.

This is an opportunity for the rest of the Linux Mint community to step up and work extra hard to fill a giant pair of shoes.

Lets come together people and keep up the fantastic work in his memory.

  33. Rest in peace Husse.
So sad, what a really nice guy.
My condolences to all that new him and his family, and also to his extended Mint ‘family’.
Rest in peace, you will be on my mind for a long time to come.

  34. We shall all miss him. He made a deep impact and certainly left his footprints here amongst us.
May he rest in peace. Condolences to his family.
    Helmut

  35. Husse, I barely knew ye. Rest in peace my friend. And condolences to all those who were close to him within the Mint community, and to his friends and family.

  36. My condolences to the family and loved ones.
I’m very saddened at the lose of Husse. I never met Husse, but I felt like I lost a very dear friend.
My prayers are for the family at this time, may Husse rest in Peace.

  37. This is truly Sad news. Clem please offer my condolences to his family. Husse will sorely be missed.

  38. First and foremost I offer my condolences to the Geier family and all of Mats’s loved ones.

On a personal level I am in a state of disbelief. Husse was the essence of what Mint was within Linux and the wider world. Few people nowadays are willing to put in the single handed effort that Husse (and Clem) do to make people feel that they belong to something truly special. May he continue to watch over us and may his passing serve to remind us to help others as he has done.

  39. I feel sad – and I hope he is in a good place. Like many, I too had conversations with him in the forums. I always enjoyed his grounding and his perspective. Enjoy life . . .

  40. Rest in peace. It is sad to see a member of the FOSS community as a whole pass away. Much work goes into these distro’s and their respective projects, so this is a thanks for all of your hard work and time investment to make FOSS software available to ALL.

    Tack for alt, Husse 🙂

  41. My deepest condolences to the family and loved ones.
He was such a nice person, I’m so sad for hes departure

  42. I’ve been using Linux Mint for only a few months but it was obvious from reading the blog and browsing the forums that Husse did a lot for this distribution. I know he will be greatly missed.

  43. Husse made me feel welcome when I first joined the forums. His positive attitude and leadership he portrayed on the forums is something that is lacking nowadays and will be deeply missed.

  44. Didn’t really know the guy myself but knew that he was always helping dudes out on the forums. Rest in Peace Husse man. I’m sure what he would want is for Clem and the community to continue making Linux Mint the #1 distro.

  45. Husse, Thank you for your help that time when I needed an answer. You helped me out big time! You will be missed. <3

  46. I also was in contact w/ Husse a lot on the Fourms & by PM.
He was always willing to go out of the way in order to help anyone that he could.Even though I never met him in person, on Linux Mint Forums he was a great Help,Teacher & Friend. He will be missed by us all. My condolences to his family,
    Jay514

  47. Husse’s constant support on the forums was fantastic. I know that he will be greatly missed by all who knew him, in person or not. Thank you, Husse, for everything.

  48. I am the spokesperson of the entire Francophone community of Linux Mint to present our most sincere condolences to the family of Husse
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
Husse thank you for everything you brought to the community, rest in peace.
    Freely
    The Francophone community.

  49. Honourable age does not depend on length of days,
nor is the number of years a true measure of life.

    R.I.P.

  51. I’ve been an infrequent visitor to the forums here over the years, but Husse’s posts were always the ones I looked to first for his knowledge and help. I’ll miss him. Rest in peace Mats.

  52. Not only sad but also shocking news. My honorable friend Mats’ loss is great for all of us in the Mint community.

My heart-felt condolences to his loved ones.

    npap

  53. They say that, “As long as someone remembers you … you will never truly die”

In this sense, Husse has reached a place of ‘immortality’ in Mint and the Linux community. He, Mats/Husse will be remembered for a long, long time.

    *lights a single while candle

  54. Sorgligt.
Husse var verkligen en som mötte en vänligt och rättvist när man behövde hjälp.
    Tankar går till familjen.
    Vila i frid.

    /Jojje

  55. Mats, or Husse as we all know and love him, was a good, kind-hearted man. He never failed to help all of us out at one point or another. I think what we can do best to honour his memory is what he always left us with on the Blog Updates:

    “Enjoy life”

Rest in Peace, brother. My prayers for his family, and for the team that worked with him so closely.

  56. I’m really sorry to hear this. My condolences go to his family and friends.

It’s a very sad day, I have been with Linux Mint since Felicia. And from being a frequent visitor on the forums as a guest and as a member also; there was no end to how hard Husse worked for Linux Mint and it’s community.

The enthusiasm and dedication that he had not just for Linux Mint but it’s community was exceptional.

    Rest In Peace.

  57. Husse was the Gandalf of Linux Mint Forums–always having a word of sage advice and willing to go out of his way to research and solve a problem. I second metamorphousthe @ #46–he should be honoured somehow in the next release.

  58. Clem,

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m still a relative newbie to Mint; I’m sad that I did not get the chance to know Husse the way some of the long-timers have on the forums. He sounds like he was a hell of a guy.

    – Trent

  59. Husse, I don’t know you but thanks for being such a great team member for the Linux Mint team and for supporting the Mint community. Rest in peace.

  60. Husse was an incredible man, he was a person that cared about others. Husse went above and beyond to make sure people felt welcome on the forum and did everything possible to make sure people got the help they needed. I will miss Husse’s comments, especially his humor. There just aren’t words that express the deep feeling of loss I feel today.

  61. Clem and the rest of the Mint Community,

I am sorry to hear of Husse’s passing.
Condolences and prayers go out to his friends and family.

His contributions to my joy of Mint and Linux in general will be sorely missed.

  62. Very sad news.

Husse was an outstanding moderator and a gentleman.

I had much respect for him.

My condolances to his loved ones.

    R.I.P. Mats Geier

  63. Husse, a name that stood out from my first visit to Linux Mint, always to be seen. Sorry to see him go, a great loss.

Thank you for everything Husse.. rest in peace..

  65. Husse:

Thanks for all the good things, comments, humor and for all the help given to the Mint lovers. Rest in peace.

  66. This is indeed a great loss for the community, even though I don’t enter to the forums very often I always saw him answering my questions or other persons questions so he was a great help for everybody. Being like this in the community I’m pretty sure he was an excellent person and I’m sure many people will miss him.

I can can give my condolence to his family and friends.

    Thanks Husse wherever you are

  67. Husse helped me on a number of occasions and I can see better now how he helped the Linux Mint community. Polite and a gentleman.

Husse, rest in peace knowing how you affected people.

  68. Aww.. I don’t really even know the guy and my eyes are tearing up a bit.

He was such a nice guy on the forums and so extremely helpful to so many people regardless if they were newbies or veterans.

Rest In Peace. You will be missed.

  69. My sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Husse.
Despite this great loss, may our community recover, and grow stronger and not lose the spirit that Husse worked so hard for.

  70. En fruktansvärd förlust, framförallt för vänner & familj, men även för alla i Linux Mint communityn, var du än är Mats så ska du veta att vi är MÅNGA som saknar dig, må du vila i frid store man.

Detta är en otroligt sorglig dag! 🙁

A tragic loss, especially for family and friends, but also for the Linux Mint community, where ever you are Mats know that there are LOTS of people that miss you, may you rest in peace great man.

This is a sad, sad day! 🙁

  71. That’s very sad. Rest In Peace Husse, your good spirit lives on through the invaluable help you’ve relentlessly given.

  72. Rest In Peace
    Mats..

You where my first voice of welcome
and may your family and friends know in the offline
world what a special person you where in our community
and may you be an inspiration in memory as much as you where in life

Does the community have an address to send condolences too?

I will go have a Pint of Guinness in honour of you tonight

    cheers

Does the community have an address to send condolences too?

  73. Husse you will be missed. I wish your family the strength to make it through this difficult time. Very sad time, I will miss Husse’s responses in the forum. He was the first person to welcome me in the forum, always helpful and friendly. Mint will not be the same without him. I hope to see the next version of Mint dedicated to Husse.

May god watch over Husse’s Family while he is away.

  74. Husse is still with us. I received my password recovery e-mail from his address. He is far from gone. But it’s sad he will no longer assist people like he did.

Clem, some of us agreed dedicating a release to Husse would be something nice of us. Maybe “Husse” could follow “Helena” and only then jump to “Isadora”.
    http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&p=252028

Condolences to the Geier family. May God rest your soul, Husse! I didn’t know you personally, but I do know you’ve done a tremendous job in this community. Let’s just hope ten other members will be able to keep up the same level of care.

    Farewell, Husse!

  75. My deep condolences to Husse, may Rest In Peace…
I think this community will lost alot of your friendly helpful specially for the new mint user….:-(

  76. My younger brother died last year. I feel with Husse’s family.

Maybe it doesn’t suit that well.
    But I got a half-sister yesterday.
That’s reason enough for me to go on.
    Life flows.

May you rest in peace, Husse.

  77. As a new member of the forum I found him always polite and very helpful.
He seemed to be a cornerstone of the community
His posts will remain as help for others

If we cannot have a edition of Mint named for him, how about an icon set, theme or wallpaper? Something that would last more than just one edition?

    Condolences to the Geier family

  78. Husse was the alpha community manager for Linux Mint.

For me, he is one of the beacons that drew me into the pot. How fortunate we have been to have such a generous teacher.

    OnOn

  79. So very sad to hear this news.
What a great impact he made on this linux community of ours, R.I.P. “Husse”

  80. Husse, you will be missed. Thank you for your help, always offered out of pure kindness. It amazed me how helpful Husse was to everyone, and really made new people (and old ones) feel welcome. This is a huge loss for the Mint community. Now we must go on and continue to build upon the incredible work Husse did for us all, and give of ourselves as he did.

  81. Such sad news. I did not know Mats, but from what I saw in
the forums he was always there to offer help, and seemed like
a wonderful person. He will be missed greatly. Least I can do
is try to help out in the forums when I can. Such a great loss
to the Mint community. My Sincere condolences to his family
    and friends.

  82. In the midst of life there is death. Let’s all strive to be remembered the same way as Mats. He will be sorely missed.

  83. Husse helped me a lot in the forum. In fact, he taught me how to post problems so the experts can diagnose the problem exactly. Now, many like me will be missing him. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

  84. “i want next release a “in memory of mats geier” under the mint logo on wallpaper 🙁 (LTS)”

    Seconded.

  85. I got use to visit the forums daily and got familiar with Husse’s admirable job. To me Linux Mint has become like a family that I dear and Husse was the one who assisted us on moments of need. Rest in peace such a formidable man who dedicate his time to give us the freedom we enjoy with Linux. He will be missed by the community but never forgotten.

  86. Thanks for your help Husse! I tried to switch to Linux many times before, but I always came back to XP. Until I installed Mint 3.0. It just worked and the forums were very friendly.
    Rest in Peace Husse!

  87. Clem,

I’m very sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. I will keep Mr. Geier’s family and you in my thoughts.

    Ron

  88. Husse, You were the first one to welcome me to Linux Mint. Thank you for all that did for Linux Mint! You will be very missed but your memory will go on through each and everyone of us that takes an opportunity to help each other to make Linux Mint shine even brighter! Rest in peace my friend, My condolences to Clem and the rest of the team during this time.Thank you for all that you do!

  89. Husse, you took with you a little piece of my heart.

My sincere condolences to Husse’s family and friends.

    Roberto

  90. My condolences to his family and friends, never met him, but from what I’ve read, he was a great man. Rest in peace good sir.

  91. Something is missing, and many of us now have an “empty” feeling.

I want to extend my sincere condolences to Husse’s family and friends.

    Jack H.

  92. Truly unfortunate. Condolences to all who knew and loved him.

It’d be great to see him memorialized somehow in the next release, but even better would be if we took up his spirit and tried our hardest to keep it alive. To the forums, to help others!

  93. My condolences to Husse’s family and friends. He was a friend to strangers that wanted help and/or guidance. He will be truly missed.

  94. Rest In Peace Husse
You will truly be missed by many, you did a great job with what you could and my condolences to the family and friends who knew you.

  95. I’m not a Mint user.
I heard the news just now over at the CrunchBang forums and just thought I’m convey my condolences to his family, friends and the Linux Mint Community.

    Rest in Peace, good man.

  96. Husse made me feel truly welcome in the Mint community. I agree with the idea that an upcoming release should be named for him. He deserves that honor.

  97. My, my, my this is sad news indeed. You can tell from the other comments that Mr. Mats Geier was greatly loved and will be missed. I only recently started to use Linux Mint (test in the past). The few times I got to visit the Mint forums, I could see his presence all over the forum. Mr. Mats Geier helped a lot of people and touched a lot of lives.Even though I never got to meet or talk with Mr. Mats Geier, I can tell that he had a awesome and amazing impact on the whole Linux Community. A memorial for him would be nice.

He has just stepped into eternity to be with the Creator. He shall be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to the family and friends, my prayers are with you. Rest In Peace (Husse) Mr. Mats Geier. This is not goodbye. See you in Heaven. God bless.

    David Evans

  98. My deepest condolences to Husse’s family and friends. Husse was a very recognisable figure within Mint and it is a sad time for Mint and the Community. Rest in Peace Husse, you’ll be missed.

  99. I think we are all shocked by that piece of news. I usually wait inpatient for news on the blog, they use to be good news; many times because of Husse. But this time i’m wordless.

    Descansa en paz.

Mi más sentido pésame a sus seres cercanos.

  100. My introduction to Husse was when he recently helped me when I upgraded to Mint 8 Helena. I had an ADSL-router that was unable to upgrade correctly because it could not see DNS servers.

He gently and persuasively nudged me to tease the terminal to resolve the isssue. His manner was one of a wise, experienced, unassuming, and articulate guide sitting behind me but in no way harassing me.

I like many, and of course his next to kin, will surely miss this powerful Mint contributor and I suspect kind human-being.

  101. My deepest condolences to everyone and his family. It is unbelievable.

A shock is the least one can say. Let’s name the next release of the Mint after him and deviate from the standard girl’s name and honor this
incredible man.I hope Mint stays strong after his demise becuase this distribution is unqiue the only one with any real bugs
Mint 10 should be called Linux Mint (Husse)

  102. Is it possible to publish all his post as small guide to linux ?

and contribute the money to the community?

what a man, he was really helpful with a lot of knowloedge.

    you will be missed buddy!

  103. this is shocking and terrible news..

I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Husse was the soul of this community.
I can not count the times his posts helped me solve issues
he was also a heck of a nice guy.
I will miss him very much.

  104. Husse!! You have done a great job.Its our pleasure to have u with us.
And you will be in us forever!! Rest in peace my friend.

  105. At seasons such as this, words are so inadequate! The sudden loss of a dear friend and colleague leaves a person with their mouth open and head shaking in disbelief Rendered mute, one realizes that the most eloquent oratory and the excellency of penmanship will never remove the vacuum of loss!

Husse was a great help to me when I first started using Linux Mint 2 years ago! He had a unique way at seeing the problem and finding a fix or remedy! He was friendly to say the least, and was always striving to help those with problems.

You will be sorely missed, Husse! Your passing has left a gaping hole in the community that should remain whole! Others may fill the void, but never will they replace you! Rest in peace, Husse. Rest in peace!

  106. Husse, a tough act to follow. Thank you for helping make Mint what it is today. We all get taken but this was far too early so, our thoughts go to your family and loved ones at this sudden and tragic loss. I only hope you didn’t suffer and are now at peace.

  107. Its amazing how great an impact one guy can have on the world. I hope someone with as much passion for the project, and as much respect for the community will come forward and keep his spirit alive. My love to his friends and family.

  108. This was sad reading. I had the privilege to talk with him a couple of years ago, and he was very helpful and accommodating. My sincere condolences to his family.

  109. Husse was a main reason that the Mint forums come across as welcoming and informative. He will be greatly missed, however his spirit and the direction he helped establish for Linux Mint will continue as we honor his efforts by building on the spirit and direction that he so clearly established.

  110. Je suis vraiment désolé. La disparition de Husse est une grande perte pour la communauté Linux Mint. Qu’il reste en paix.

  111. Linux Mint was my first distro, and I learned a lot from Husse at the forum. Husse was the main reason I converted to Linux.

    Rest in peace.

  112. Thanks Husse for all that you did. You will be missed.

I am sure the pinguins up there will seek your advice and wisdom.

From the Dutch Linux Mint Community.
    Wamukota, Midas, Schorem, Mr. B

  113. Rest in peace and thank you so much for delivering me from cringedows.

Although I have to dual boot with Mint and XP just so i can use my Kodak printer.

    Condolences to his family.

  114. My Condolences to the Geir family and close friends.

This is who we are as a community. We work and work and leave a legacy. There is a reward you leave in your footsteps that manifest in the direction, that also leads to the understanding, that we can make something that really contributes to the betterment of mankind. This is one person who did, we will live better and be reminded of his dedication and the informative remarks in the forums. We will still see his footprints, and, also, have his finger prints all over our “Mint”. Thanks to you Mats “Husse” Geier, you will be missed.

  115. I also vote for making the next release “Husse LTS.” Long-term support is what he gave here, and it seems very fitting to respond to such a profound loss with a release named not only for him but also for the kind of service he offered to the Mint community. Then let us honor his memory by moving ahead — with profound gratitude for his spirit and his contributions — in the way that he demonstrated, helping us to overcome difficulties and move ahead from day to day.

    David

  116. This is stunning news. He was so “everywhere” it just won’t seem the same without him. And what a really nice guy. Does anyone know what happened?

  117. Husse, you were the best member of the team and we will miss you ever so much. You helped us with our problems with Mint on the forums and managed to help us to solve them.

    Rest in Peace, Husse.

  118. Husse helped me as well and set a great example of how you can be gentle and kind and still be a man. Surely someone who touched so many people’s lives was that if not more. God bless you Mats, your pain is over.

  119. I never interacted with Husse but i certainly saw his interactions everywhere on the site. Rest In Peace mate.

  120. GNU/Linux lost a great friend…

Mankind lost a philanthropist of the word…

    Requiescat in pacem, commilite!

  121. My sincere condolences to all who have been touched, knowingly and (like myself) unawares, by this man, so missed already. I do pray comfort on the family and closest friends. What we do in this life matters. What he did is just one evidence of that. May we all choose well by choosing good.

  122. My sincerest condolences to the Geier family.
He shall be missed dearly, in memory and gratitude of what he has done for many people throughout the world. Without doubt Mats Geier was unselfish in what he did for others, passionate and concerned, a facilitator, a team member, giving a part of his life to all of us for which we surely are thankful.

Thank you for being there for us Mats…

  123. Man, it’s been a real long time since I’ve posted here or even visited the site. I didn’t expect to come here and see this today. My condolences go out to Mat’s family and to the team.

  124. I am very sorry to hear this news. As a newbee to linux I have occasion to ask questions and this man helped me both directly and indirectly on several occasions. He did not seem to be angered by *silly* questions and gave calm and helpful answers.

    RIP “Husse”

  126. Rest in peace my friend, I’ve enjoyed our interactions over the last few years and I’m so sorry to see you go. You will be missed and the world is less bright without you around.

    Cheers my friend

  127. Like many others I did not know him personally as Clem and the others, but it is obvious a piece of Lunux Mint has gone forever.

My sincere condolonces to his family and friends, rest in peace.

  128. Fair Winds and Following Seas. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family. You will be missed by many more then can be imagined.

  129. Grandes mentes nunca morrem.
Husse , estais em nossos corações.

    Great minds never die.
Husse, you are in our hearts.

  130. I was stunned when I read the news. It seemed like one of those moments which causes you to remember where you were when you heard the news: the Kennedy assassination, the Columbia explosion, the World Trade Center…

I will miss you Husse. It was easy to tell you carried about the forum members.

“Blue Skies, Black Death” (skydiving phrase)

  131. I am an outsider to the community (thus far), but I’d like to express my condolences to the friends, family, and associates of an obviously well-liked and -respected member of the Mint community.

As I prepare to try LM for the first time, I’m sure I’ll get to know the community, and from the thoughts you’ve all expressed, I expect I will yet be influenced by Mr. Geier’s work and his associations with you all.

  132. This is truly a loss as “Husse” was so incredibly helpful to us Linux newbs, making sure the forum was going smoothly and the helpfulness wasn’t just on a local Mint community but servicing a worldwide community..you will be so missed!

  133. oh my god!!

he is, maybe the one who answer my many questions..
it really hard to belieb he is dead..

    Rest In Peace..
    We will miss you

i really want the next release of linux mint
    will be dedicated to Husse..

  134. Wow, this is quite a loss.

I’ll miss your forum posts, you were a very helpful part of our community. Rest in peace.

  135. Rest in peace, Husse. May the Great Dragon bear you forever on His back as He continues His Great Journey.

“Men are but flesh and blood. They know their doom, but not the hour.”–Uriel Septim

  136. Mycket tråkigt att höra. Jag kommer att sakna honom. Minnet av Husse kommer att leva kvar länge hos oss.
Det bästa sättet att hedra honom är att ha honom som förebild och försöka vara på motsvarande sätt själv.

Bad news. I will miss him. He will remain in our minds for a long long time.
The best way to honor him, is trying ourself, to be as kind and helpful as he was. Keep a “Husse-behavior” alive.

  137. wow, I really have my heart out to his friends and family.

From now on, I really want to focus on Linux Mint then any other OS.

May you rest in peace Husse, the inventor of a true operating system.

  138. My condolences to the family, the team, and the community on the loss of a wonderful person.

And I wholeheartedly agree that it would be fitting to dedicate the next Mint to him.

  139. A great Distrie and her users lost a great member.
A new Angel is coming up in heaven.
Please Clem let us honor his great work for us all and call the next Release ” Husse ”
My condolonces to his family and friends.
    Thank you for all !!!

    Uwe

  140. I am very sorry… Don’t know what else to say… It’s very hard and painful to part with dear people.

  141. I have read and reread so many answers to posts writen by Husse.
I will remain forever grateful for his help and kindness.
He was such a gentle and knowledgeble gardian angel.
    What a lost.
    Rest in peace.

  142. I am very saddened to hear of his departure. I think I speak for everyone here when say, he will be missed.

  143. I am saddened by news of Husse’s passing. I have come across his helpful posts in the forum which have helped me. Rest in peace Husse and thanks for all that you have done to advance the use of GNU/Linux

  144. I’m very sorry to hear about Husse’s passing. I’ve not spent a lot of time on the forums, but his name stuck out to me even in the short time I lurked there as someone who was extremely helpful to everyone. Rest in Peace.

  145. So sorry to hear this. I am new to Linux, Mint, and this site- but it still makes me very sad when a smart, talented, and undoubtedly loving person passes away. 🙁

  146. I’m relatively new to Mint and have only visited the Forums occasionally, but the name Husse was instantly recognizable, as I recall he took the time to answer a question I posted, when it went unanswered for some time! I’m sure he will be missed by those who knew and loved him, but he will remain alive in their hearts and minds, gone but not forgotten, R.I.P.

  147. Oh no, not Husse! My heart is sinking into my gut, he is what brought about my return to linux. He is the one who patiently helped me when I felt lost and alone in the world of linux. Mats thank you for being there each and every time. I don’t know how linux mint will be the same without you, and I don’t think even our whole group of users could ever replace what you brought to the community. But we are all inspired by your gifts brought to the project. Again, thank you.

To Clem, users, moderators, programmers, family and friends of Linux Mint I wish you all the best in this sudden saddening event.

To Mats, Husse’s, family and friends… thank you for sharing him with the rest of the world. He touched all our hearts. May he rest in peace.

    -Adel, Linux Mint User

  148. Husse is a huge part of why I came to love Linux Mint more than any other OS/Distro I’ve ever tried. He really made me feel close to the primary elements of the distro. I wish the best to his family and friends, he was really a great guy.

  149. Husse was extremely important he was an really great guy with the heart on the just place to make Linux Mint what it is we will miss you.

  150. This is indeed very sad news. Mats, thanks for all your hard work to help bring this distro to the masses, you will be greatly missed. Clem, thank you and the others for your hard work as well.

  151. Until we meet again:

    Ascension

    And if I go,
    while you’re still here…
    Know that I live on,
    vibrating to a different measure
    – behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
    You will not see me,
    so you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
    – both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest.
    And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
    … I will be there.

    Colleen Corah Hitchcock

  152. Just getting started with Mint (tried on most of the major distribution – this is the best much due to the community).
Deeply sorry to get this news as Mats have been an inspiration and a true Open Source spirit. My thoughts to his closest ones and to the Mint Community – lets keep his spirit alive (even though it is hard right now).
Family and close friends – not much to say, morn in peace – it will take time… R.I.P community friend 😉

  153. Sorry to hear about Husse…I am an old Redhat user that wants to get back into the linux game…Specifically Mint8 or Ubuntu, but know NOTHING about these exciting OS’s….Got sick of PC’s and walked away from it all for a few years!!!! Now I’m back and need re-education on everything so I can start from scratch again…Question: Who can point me in the right direction to start from scratch again???? I would appreciate any and all help from hardware to applications I am eager to read all…Thanks to any and all who can help….Eben (ehutch591@yahoo.com)

  154. My deepest sympathies and condolences. As an avid GNU/Linux/BSD user for many years, finding Linux Mint was like finding my own home…its the only Distro I use any more and I can only imagine how much Mats’ own efforts are reflected in this Distro I’ve grown to appreciate so much. Let me not fail to thank all of you now for making the computing experience so interesting, rewarding and fun.

    Once in a while,
    you get shown the light,
    in the strangest of places,
if you look at it right
    (Robert Hunter)

    Gratefully,

    Michael

  155. I’m new to Mint, but I am moved by the reaction of the community to this sad news. This is a very special thing that you are all a part of.

  156. I am new to the Mint community. Seeing this post really touched me. The amount of community involvement in FOSS development is amazing. I’m sorry that I did not have an opportunity to know Husse when he was with us. Based on the comments he managed to touch a whole lot of people.

  157. I’m shocked to find this sad news. I remember having little chats with him here at the forums and at irc too, helping me with issues or answering my doubts. This shock me and let me breathless. I’m sure his family and close friends will be comforted with all the love we, strangers, give back to him; love to them.

    Requiescat in Pace.

    Strenght to you all..

  159. Husse was the most polite and helpful moderator I’ve seen on a forum anywhere. He really was like a rock for the community, and a joy to read on the boards.

    Mats, you will be missed.

  160. That’s sad news indeed, condolences to Mats family and the Linux Mint team – kia kaha.

  161. Rest in Peace…. Thanks to YOU, this world, particularly this community is a far better place… because of you

  162. Oh no! My condolences to the family, and to the Mint community. Husse answered many questions for me, always patient, always correct and thorough. At one point I used to browse the forum for Husse posts, just to learn more. He will be greatly missed, and is irreplaceable. We do all need to step up more now.

  163. My sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends and those that he touched through his dedication and devotion to this project. I didn’t know him personally, but can feel how special he really must have been by all of the wonderful things that others are saying, and by the work he did here. Rest in peace…comrade!

  164. Покойся с миром, Mats Geier.

  166. Just like clem, it’s hard to fine words to say. I want to say as much as I can that is on my mind, but it is difficult to find the words to use. I will say this: Every little thing, no matter how miniscule it might seem to you, makes a huge impact on people. The simple reply on a message board to assist someone with their issue might seem unimportant, but it could affect not only the person who needs help, but also their family and their daily lives. Once a problem is solved or an alternative workaround is found, it can make an enormous difference. I may not be an active forum member, but I have seen the name “husse” pop up quite often, and I thought to myself “If only everyone were like this guy, the world would be ever so inviting for generations to come!” Husse definitely is one of the major reasons, if not the top reason why the Linux Mint community is wonderfully great thing to be a part of, even as an observer.

One reason I use Mint as one of my primary operating systems is because of it’s elegant design and well thought out nature, bringing the best out of Ubuntu and creative minds, alike. The other reason I use it is due to the community and members behind it. In other words, husse, whether he realized it or not, played a large role in why I settled with Linux Mint on my laptop, which I love very much.

R.I.P. to a great guy, and I hope he’s not surprised at the fact that his loss is one that did not go by unnoticed! If his family is reading this, I just want to say to them how lucky they are to have known this man in person!

Husse is a reminder of what each of us should emulate and carry on both in our public lives, and in our personal ones as well.

  167. Many times Husse has helped me. For years hear in the Mint forums he has help us newcomers and what a friend he was. Truly he will be missed. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

To Husse I must say THANK YOU!!!!

  168. I have Mint on every computer in the family. My children initially used it because I told them to, but now do so out of choice, finding it much easier and more efficient than the Windows they have to use at school. Husse’s kind and patient determination to help everyone on the forums has had a lot to do with this. Thank you, Husse. Rest in peace. My sincerest condolences to your family, friends and colleagues. As many others have said, you will be sorely missed by the Mint community.

  169. I am sorry for your loss.

Perhaps a future major version of Linux Mint could be named ‘Husse’ in fond rememberance of all his contributions, and involvement. That seems to me to be a nice way of embedding his persona in kind.

    DS

  170. How sad. All I can think to say is that he was mortal, but he will live on in human memory and on the web forever. Not just a loss to Linux now, but a loss to the wider community Linux will embrace in time.

  171. Sad news. The ‘m’ in the Mint logo — to me it now does not stand for magic, although one might think so, seeing the results. It stands for Mats and people like him, like you. May that ‘m’ be a reminder. In admiration, GC

  172. Being a new user of Mint I gave it a try on my subnetbook and it just works flawlessly. It replaced Win7 completely and is a wonderful piece of software. This sad moment reminds me that after all there are people like Husse who volunteer to make the world a better place.

Rest in peace Husse and thanks for all your wonderful contributions.

  173. This is very sad. I always enjoyed the banter with Husse over these past few years. I will definitely miss him, and mint won’t be the same without him. My condolences to his family.

  174. Man, this is horrible! Husse has helped me solve a lot of problems I got into to make the best distro of the world working good on my rig. Such a loss… and I didn’t know he was a mature man, I thought he was at twenties yet…

Such a loss… how had he gone? Accident? Disease?

  175. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

I have been using Mint only for the last 2 days but based
on Husse’s postings and other’s posting about Husse, I am
    sure he will be missed.

    RIP Husse.

    Harry
