A lot of great innovations have been implemented by the Ubuntu developers and a lot of new software made it to their repository. Gnome 2.20,   OpenOffice 2.3\u00a0and\u00a0Thunderbird\u00a02.0\u00a0for instance are\u00a0among\u00a0them.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Mint\u00a0developers\u00a0also\u00a0put\u00a0a\u00a0lot\u00a0of\u00a0efforts\u00a0into\u00a0modernizing\u00a0their\u00a0tools.<\/p>\n<p>MintInstall\u00a0and\u00a0MintDesktop\u00a0should\u00a0come\u00a0with\u00a0significant\u00a0changes.\u00a0\u00a0MintUpdate is ready and should be included in Daryna. And finally, innovations that were put into Celena will be ported to Daryna as well, this includes for instance mintAssistant and mintUpload.<\/p>\n<p>Development\u00a0on\u00a0Daryna\u00a0itself\u00a0begun\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0upgrade\u00a0path\u00a0to\u00a0Gutsy\u00a0proved\u00a0very\u00a0tricky.<\/p>\n<p>Based\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a07.10\u00a0RC\u00a0release\u00a0the\u00a0team\u00a0didn&#8217;t\u00a0manage\u00a0to\u00a0get\u00a0a\u00a0stable\u00a0system\u00a0yet.\u00a0\u00a0Users are recommended to avoid upgrades to Gutsy. Among other known issues Firefox\u00a0and\u00a0Gdebi\u00a0stop\u00a0working&#8230;\u00a0and\u00a0sudo\u00a0causes\u00a0problems.<\/p>\n<p>With\u00a0Gutsy\u00a0final\u00a0being\u00a0released\u00a0tomorrow\u00a0Daryna\u00a0should\u00a0become\u00a0usable\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0days\u00a0to\u00a0come\u00a0and\u00a0we\u00a0should\u00a0expect\u00a0a\u00a0BETA\u00a0release\u00a0soon\u00a0enough.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0challenge\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0Mint\u00a0team\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0the\u00a0upgrade\u00a0path\u00a0which\u00a0will\u00a0\u00a0eventually determine whether it&#8217;s possible to upgrade from Celena to Daryna and whether Mint still uses Ubuntu to produce the liveCDs or start generating its own.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0brief..\u00a0things\u00a0look\u00a0very\u00a0promising\u00a0but\u00a0there\u00a0are\u00a0still\u00a0a\u00a0few\u00a0uncertainties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gutsy should be released tomorrow and we will be looking at a brand new Ubuntu.
