Sebastien Bouchard reviewed the color variations for the Mint-Y theme and came up with a method and a proposal for a new palette. He worked on hue, lightness and saturation in an effort to make the colors more vibrant without affecting readability and comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\nOne of our developers notoriously uses Mint-Y-Pink already… so we started with that color and asked him to review the changes by trying the new theme for a week or so.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\nAs you can see the new Pink is more vibrant in terms of lightness and saturation but it also is more Pink in terms of hue (it lost that purple-ish hue the previous color had).<\/p>\n
The new color is pleasant without being overwhelming and the resulting GTK theme is nice to use.<\/p>\n
We’re hoping to apply this method to all the other colors and to adapt the folder icons.<\/p>\n
Warpinator<\/strong><\/p>\n 10 years ago, Linux Mint 6 featured a new tool called Giver to easily share files across the local network. Without any server or configuration, computers would automatically see each others and you could simply drag and drop files from one to another. When the Giver project died we had to remove it from Linux Mint and we’ve been missing that functionality ever since.<\/p>\n The “Network discovery” entry in our roadmap eventually led to early mockups but we never found the time to implement it… until now.<\/p>\n Work started on a new implementation and with a smaller scope than the initial mockups. The idea is to recreate the core functionality offered by Giver. Server configuration (FTP, NFS, Samba) is overkill for casual file transfers between two clients, and it’s a real pity to use external media (Internet services, USB sticks, external HDDs) just to share files when there’s a local network which could do just that.<\/p>\n The main window shows you the computers on the local network which are also running Warpinator**:<\/p>\n\n\n By clicking on a computer you can see more information about it and exchange files with it:<\/p>\n\n\n The source code for this project is on github at https:\/\/github.com\/linuxmint\/warp<\/a>.<\/p>\n ** Note that “Warpinator” is a temporary name.
