Weekly Newsletter – Issue 46

Welcome to the Linux Mint Newsletter

Bear with me this is  the first edition in the blog and I have not found a preview option

* News about Mint

Beta 032 of Elyssa (main edition) has been out some time now. There seems to be few serious bugs, but of course there is always something found in a beta. There will probably be another beta, Clem has to fill in the details on that. I have found this beta very good except for problems with Firefox so I’m convinced the final version will be a smash hit

  1. Hi Husse,

I can confirm that there will be another public BETA release. A lot of bugs have been fixed and we’re also planning on upgrading Firefox to RC1.

  2. Hi Husse

    Newletters:

Nice newsletter as ever. They bring us weekly a lot of
    brand new informations. Thanks!

Clem: Please,Try to move to Firefox RC1 – follow your intention.

  3. Hello,
Some thing strange is happening with some codecs.
Mobile movies are played with a missing colour.

Anyway, the 032 version is an excellent piece of work.
With the inclusion of WINE this must be the best distro ever.
But we all are suspicious aren’t we?!?

Another point I shouldn’t miss is the strange publication od Thunderbird in the MINT repositorie… in Daryna it come without signature… and that happens till now in my main machine that was not yet upgraded. Comments?!?

  4. i would love to see an upgrade on the icons before final release. It would look really fresh.

  5. i have been using the beta of elyssa for a week or two and have found some freezing issues with the firefox main browser but then that has always been an issue in firefox it does not seem to be a bug inherant to Mint specifically

  6. Hello Clem & Team,
I have installed the beta for testing. There was a glitch with the Gnome settings daemon. Anyway, I went ahead with installation and finsihed. Then I did mint updates, and then it is working ok.
    Good work. Keep it up.

Also, please don’t discard any old screen background them. Keep them, they are really nice, and pleasing to the hardworking eyes.

    Regards
    Daaler

  7. Now that Wine 1.0-rc1 has been released, may we please hope to find it in the Mint repository soon?

  8. Another thing I’d like to see is the screen resolution issues fixed. I burned the beta of Elyssa to a CD-RW, tried it out, and I still had the same screen resolution issues that Ubuntu’s Hardy Heron has, so I erased the disc. Like I said earlier, the screen resolution settings in the previous versions of Ubuntu and Mint worked like a charm on the same hardware. Hopefully this will be resolved in the final version of Elyssa. As an alternate idea and if my wife doesn’t mind me spending the money, I may see if I can get my hands on a different video card…

  9. I have been using Mint since 3.0, and have been installing it on many of my family and friends computers (all new to Linux). The only issue has been the inability to play CBC.ca and BBC videos. If this could be resolved Mint would be the perfect distribution for people new to the Linux World.

  10. I had screen resolution problem to..But I simply changed from 60 hertz to 59 hertz…Works perfect that way 🙂

  11. Please, please sort out the screen resolution problem. It really is a pain having only low res options available. On my dual boot laptop Linux Mint / Windows (wash your mouth out) Vista, Vista sees full res 1280 X 800 instantly!

Can’t select higher res option or change refresh rate in Mint.
